Zips Fall In Home Opener
AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Wright State in its home opener on Sunday at the LaTuchie Tennis Center. The Raiders (2-3 overall) won the doubles point. The Zips' (3-2 overall) sole win came at No. 2 doubles as junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) and freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) stayed undefeated (3-0 this spring) with a 6-1 victory over Jillian Milano and Madison Riley.

Women's Tennis Sweeps Two Road Matches
OLEAN, N.Y. – The University of Akron women's tennis team picked up a pair of road wins on Friday at the SBU Fitness Center. In morning action, Akron (3-1 overall) shut out host St. Bonaventure, 7-0, before defeating Niagara, 6-1, in the afternoon. Akron won the doubles point in both matches. At No. 1 doubles, junior Luisa Echeverry and freshman Miruna Vasilescu claimed two wins. The duo defeated SBU's Gabriella Bowe and Kahlei Reisinger, 7-5, before beating Niagara's Stella Peisakhova/Shannon Wong, 6-1.

Cardinals Top Eastern Illinois
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team improved to 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, with two wins over Eastern Illinois (0-5). The Cardinals defeated the Panthers 4-3 in the first match and then 4-2 in the night cap. Ball State took both of the doubles points from the Panthers Sunday afternoon. Peyton Gollhofer alongside teammate Lilya Hadab took down Srishti Slaria and Claire Martin, 6-3 at the No. 3 position to clinch the point for Ball State in the first match. In the second meeting of the double header, Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington put the Cardinals up 1-0 after claiming the doubles point on the top court over EIU's Grace Summers and Stella Cliffe.

Women's Tennis Remains Undefeated
PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (3-0) remains undefeated as it earned a 6-1 victory over Youngstown State (0-4) Saturday afternoon. In the Falcons third straight victory at home, they swept doubles competition, while five of six players picked up singles wins. While Paula Comella and Polina Radeva remain undefeated in singles competition, Marta Bettinelli and Vanesa Pardo were able to clinch their first victories with the Bowling Green program.

Eagles Open With Win Over Youngstown State
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team won its opening dual of 2018 with a 5-2 victory over Youngstown State University, Jan. 26, in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Eagles started their day off strong, sweeping the doubles to take the first point and secure an early lead in the match. The duo of senior Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna and freshman Natalia Regalado notched the first victory of the day with a dominating 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles. Seniors Ani Gogvadze and Andrea Martinovska followed with a strong 6-4 win of their own in the No. 2 doubles to lock up the point, before senior Marie Mayerova and freshman Giuliana Ansaloni solidified the sweep, capping off a back-and-forth affair with a 7-6 victory.

Women's Tennis Tops Dayton
HAMILTON, Ohio -- The Miami University women's tennis team overcame an early deficit to defeat the University of Dayton 5-2 Sunday at Riverside Athletic Club. The RedHawks improve to 2-1 on the season, while Dayton is 0-3. After using a doubles sweep to propel them to victory on Friday against Wright State, the `Hawks wouldn't be able to find the same success again. Dayton earned the match's first point by winning two quick doubles matches on the first and second courts.

RedHawks Outlast Wright State, 4-3
DAYTON, Ohio – The Miami University women’s tennis team used a great doubles performance to win their first match of the 2017-18 dual season Friday when they took down Wright State, 4-3. The RedHawks are now 1-1 on the young season, while the Raiders fall to 0-3. The ‘Hawks earned the crucial doubles point to start the match as they swept all three matches. At first doubles, the senior duo of Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina breezed past Wright State’s Haller/Morgan 6-1. Priyana Kalita and Milana Lysova won 6-2 on the second court, while Emily Struble and Melati Devi combined to knock off Pelayo/Whitney 6-3 at third position.

Huskies Drop Pair at Bradley
PEORIA, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team opened the spring portion of its season suffering a pair of losses at the Clubs at River City Saturday afternoon. The Huskies (0-2) fell to Southwest Missouri State, 4-3, before falling to Bradley, 6-1. NIU, which is battling the flu bug, did not field a competitor at the No. 6 singles and at No. 3 doubles. Evelyn Youel, Abigail Dekkinga and Brodie Walker each posted straight set victories in NIU's match versus SEMO. However, the Huskies lost the doubles point and the match.

Toledo:
Women's Tennis Edges Cleveland State
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Sidnay Huck and junior Kokoro Chishaki each won their singles matches and teamed up at No. 1 doubles to help lead Toledo to a 4-3 victory over Cleveland State in women's tennis action on Sunday. Huck defeated Isabella Spindler, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles while Chishaki triumphed over Blanche Lenoan, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Huck and Chishaki knocked off Spindler and Jana Schober in No. 1 doubles by a 6-1 margin. Also claiming victory for the Rockets were sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley at No. 2 singles (7-5, 7-5) and the team of sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong and senior Colleen O'Brien, 7-6 (4) winners at No. 3 doubles.

Rockets Fall To Duquesne
Cleveland, Ohio— The University of Toledo women's tennis team took the doubles point but was not able to keep the momentum going in singles play in a 5-2 loss to Duquesne in a match played in Cleveland Saturday evening. The Rockets picked up doubles victories from No. 2 doubles team junior Thalita Rodrigues and sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley (6-3), and No. 3 doubles pairing sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong and senior Colleen O'Brien (6-3). Junior Kokoro Chishaki took the lone singles point at No. 5 singles, winning 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Women's Tennis Ends Road Trip With Loss
WACO, Texas – The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up match play in Texas on Saturday evening, falling to New Mexico at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center by a score of 6-1. Following the loss, the Broncos drop to 2-4 overall in the spring and return home for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Lobos took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1 in that order, taking a 1-0 lead heading into singles. New Mexico took a 3-0 lead after winning matches at the one and six spots before junior Denise Azcui delivered a punch at the No. 2 position. Azcui defeated Wong 6-4, 6-3 to keep the Broncos alive, picking up her first victory at No. 2 in dual play.

Broncos Fall To No. 19 Baylor
WACO, Texas – The Western Michigan women's tennis team dropped its first of two dual matches in Texas Friday afternoon, falling by a score of 7-0 to 19th-ranked Baylor. The Broncos fall to 2-3 on the season and will face the Lobos of New Mexico tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. (EST) inside the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. This was the first dual match of the spring for the Lady Bears, as they swept the match, claiming all three doubles matches and all six singles matches. Bronco duo of Katja Fevralev and Melina Lyubomirova put up a big fight at No. 1, but ultimately fell 7-6 (6-2). Freshman Jeryn Jack was tasked with facing the No. 117 ranked Jessica Hinojosa at No. 5, with Hinojosa coming out with the victory 6-1, 6-1.
