Buffalo:
Wrestling Falls To No. 17 Central Michigan


MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo wrestling team won three of the first four matches against Central Michigan, but it wasn't enough as the Bulls lost to the 17th-ranked Chippewas, 26-9, at McGuirk Arena on Sunday afternoon. Kyle Akins led things off with a 4-0 shutout of Drew Hildebrandt at 125 to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead in the dual. Bryan Lantry followed with a 2-1 win over Dresden Simon. Lantry's win improved the redshirt-junior to 7-3 in duals on the season.

Bulls Fall to Old Dominion, 22-9

The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped a Mid-American Conference dual to Old Dominion, 22-9, at Alumni Arena on Friday night. Four separate matches were decided in overtime. Unfortunately, for the Bulls, the Monarchs won three of the OT matches. After Kyle Akins dropped a 4-2 sudden victory to Michael McGee at 125, Bryan Lantry tied the dual with a thrilling 3-1 decision over Caleb Richardson. With the match tied at 1 in the closing seconds, Lantry earned a takedown with just three seconds left to earn the 3-1 win. Full Story...

Central Michigan:
Chippewas Bounce Back With Dual Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan wrestling team needed a lift and a rebound. The Chippewas got both on Sunday in posting a 26-9 Mid-American Conference dual-meet victory over Buffalo at McGuirk. The win lifted CMU to 6-4, 3-1 MAC and it came two days after the 17th-ranked Chippewas fell at home to third-ranked Missouri, 29-6. The Bulls are 5-7, 2-3. Sunday's dual marked the return of veteran Colin Heffernan to the Chippewa lineup. The senior 157-pounder last wrestled on Dec. 1 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, where he injured a shoulder.  Full Story...

Chippewas Fall To No. 3 Missouri

Good start, good finish. In between, it was all Missouri. The third-ranked Tigers won eight matches - one by pin, two by major decision - in handing No. 17 Central Michigan a 29-6 loss in a Mid-American Conference wrestling dual meet on Friday at McGuirk Arena. The loss ended CMU's dual win streak at four and left the Chippewas 5-4, 2-1 MAC. Eastern Michigan:
Eagles Blow By NIU, 30-3

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts on its way to a commanding 30-3 dual win over Northern Illinois University Friday evening, Jan. 19, inside the Convocation Center. It was EMU's (5-6, 1-3 MAC) first win over the Huskies since 2013. The three points were the fewest given up by Eastern in a Mid-American Conference dual since a 30-3 win over Buffalo Dec 6, 2015. In all, it was EMU's fifth win over the Huskies (2-5, 0-3 MAC) since the series began back in the 1971-72 season. Full Story...

Kent State:
Wrestling Falls At No. 5 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – Junior Isaac Bast earned a convincing 7-1 victory, but No. 5 Oklahoma State cruised past Kent State 42-3 Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.  The Cowboys improved to 8-1 on the season, while the Golden Flashes dropped to 11-6. Bast controlled his match, allowing just one escape and building up riding time. Freshman Colin McCracken stayed within striking distance throughout his 8-5 setback.  Full Story...

Flashes Take Six Bouts In 18-13 Win Over Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio – The Grudge Match Trophy changed hands Friday night as Kent State won six of the first seven matches in an 18-13 victory at Ohio.  The Golden Flashes (11-6) earned their first Mid-American Conference win of the season and have now won their last three dual meets. Freshman Jake Ferri quieted the Convocation Center crowd with his first career MAC dual victory, a 7-4 decision over Trevor Giallombardo. Full Story...

Missouri:
No. 3 ranked Tigers Clinch MAC Regular Season Title

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – No. 3 Mizzou Wrestling (15-0, 6-0 MAC) continued its dominance in the Mid-American Conference Friday, defeating No. 17 Central Michigan (5-4, 2-1 MAC), 29-6, to claim the MAC regular season dual championship. Mizzou has now won the dual title in three of the last four seasons, after winning it in 2015 and 2016. In six MAC duals this season, Mizzou has outscored its opposition, 217-31. Dating back to Jan. 25, 2014, Mizzou has won 34 of its last MAC 35 duals, outscoring its opposition, 1,039-304.

After a setback at 125 pounds, Mizzou rattled off eight straight victories to take control of the dual, building a 29-3 lead behind bonus point victories from redshirt senior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee, redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis and redshirt freshman 184-pounder Canten Marriott. Lavallee recorded fifth fall on the season, while Lewis and Marriott each recorded major decisions. Full Story...

Northern Illinois:
Wrestling Drops Dual At Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team finished up its weekend road trip with a 34-6 loss at Ohio in the Convocation Center Sunday. Kirk Johansen led the way for NIU.  The Huskie redshirt sophomore defeated Trevor Giallambardo, 7-2, at 125 in the first bout of the afternoon.  Johansen improved to 3-4 this season and picked up his first dual win. Full Story...

Huskies Fall At Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team fell to the Eagles of Eastern Michigan, 30-3, on Friday night in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Max Ihry, who wrestled at 197, led the way for NIU. The Huskie redshirt-freshman defeated Jared Langley of EMU, 2-0.  Ihry avenged a loss to Langley earlier in the season at the Eastern Michigan Open where he lost, 4-3.  Ihry is 5-13 this season including two MAC dual wins, which is tied with Brock Hudkins for most on the team. Full Story...

Ohio Wrestling Tops NIU, 34-6

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio wrestling team (3-6) recorded an exciting 34-6 victory over Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois to close out a weekend of MAC competition in the Convocation Center on Sunday, Jan. 21. Highlights of the match included pins by Ohio redshirt juniors Austin Reese and Arsen Ashughyan and a technical fall by junior Cameron Kelly.

Bobcats Drop Dual With Kent State

The Ohio wrestling team (2-6) suffered a tough 18-13 loss to longtime Mid-American Conference rival Kent State (11-6) on Friday evening (Jan. 19) in the Convocation Center. Ohio junior Cameron Kelly earned Ohio's first win on the night after facing Kent State's Anthony Tutolo in the 133-class, taking a 16-3 major decision victory. Full Story...

Old Dominion:
Monarchs Pin The Eagles, 27-10

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (7-5, 3-1 MAC) wrestling team won its third straight match after defeating American University (4-5, 1-2 EIWA) by a score of 27-10 at the Ted Constant Center on Sunday afternoon. ODU won seven out of 10 matches and acquired bonus points in four of those seven matches. Starting the match off at 165, Luke Drugac earned a win by decision over Anthony Wokasch. Earning bonus points for the Monarchs, Seldon Wright won by major decision over Michael Eckhart.  Full Story...

Monarchs Top Buffalo, 22-9

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Old Dominion (6-5, 3-1 MAC) wrestling team defeated Buffalo (5-6, 2-2 MAC) in a conference battle on Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y. The Monarchs won seven out of 10 bouts. The Monarch victory marked the first win over Buffalo since January 23, 2015. To start off the match, Michael McGee took Kyle Akins, a returning NCAA qualifier into overtime. McGee won in a tiebreaker with a takedown in the first few seconds.  Full Story...
