Women's Tennis Falls At Pittsburgh
WEXFORD, Pa. – The University of Akron women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to Pittsburgh on Saturday evening at the Oxford Athletic Club. Pittsburgh claimed the doubles point with two match victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. At No. 2 doubles, junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) and freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) were ahead of Luisa Varon and Claudia Bartolome, 5-4, but did not finish once the doubles point was earned.

Zips Open With 5-2 Win At Detroit
DETROIT – The University of Akron women’s tennis team opened the 2017-18 spring season with 5-2 victory over host Detroit Mercy on Friday at the Franklin Athletic Club. The Zips (1-0) claimed the doubles point with two match victories. At No. 1 doubles, senior captain Carli Knezevich and sophomore Rita Pedroso beat freshman twins Chelsea Apawti and Jasmine Apawti, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles, junior Luisa Echeverry and freshman Anna Uljanov defeated Sara Mitrakovic and Sophie Torcello, 6-4.

Ball State:
Women's Tennis Wins 6-1 At Illinois State
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Ball State women's tennis team recorded its first win of the season topping Illinois State 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Bloomington Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 1-1 on the season while the Redbirds fall to 1-1. Ball State took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Julia Sbircea alongside teammate Peyton Gollhofer were the first doubles tandem off the court for the Cardinals after defeating Ivon Mihaleva and Jana Kustkova by a score of 6-3 on court two. It was Sarah Swiderski and Isabelle Dohanics that clinched the doubles point for the Cardinals after recording a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position. The top court also won for Ball State, Rebecca Herrington and doubles partner Audrey Berger finished with a 7-6 defeat over Veronika Golanova and Jelena Karla Vujicic.

Cardinals Fall at Northwestern
EVANSTON, Ill. - The Ball State women's tennis team (0-1) opened its 2018 spring season with a 6-1 loss at Big Ten foe Northwestern (1-0) Saturday afternoon in the Combe Tennis Center. The match began with doubles play, as the Cardinals dropped all three matches to the Wildcats. Sarah Swiderski paired up with teammate Isabelle Dohanics at the No. 3 spot for Ball State's first loss, falling to Northwestern's Julie Byrne and Rheeya Doshi by a score of 6-1. On court two, Peyton Gollhofer and Julia Sbircea took two games from the No. 8 duo of Lee Or and Alex Chatt but lost 6-2.

Women's Tennis Earns 4-3 Win at Xavier
PERRYSBURG, Ohio – In the final match of the day, sophomore Ayumi Sasaki was able to lift the Bowling Green tennis program (2-0) to a 4-3 victory over Xavier (0-2) on Sunday afternoon. After the Falcons earned the doubles point by claiming two of three matches against the Musketeers, they were able to come out victorious in three singles matches on the day to improve to an undefeated 2-0 record in the spring campaign.

Falcons Down Chicago State, 6-1
PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (1-0) opened the spring season with a dominant 6-1 win over Chicago State (0-1) Thursday afternoon. The Falcons picked up wins on all three courts of doubles action, as well as in five of six singles matches on the day. Bowling Green swept doubles competition with 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1 wins. Three of the Falcons five singles wins came in straight sets. Most dominant, junior Paula Comella did not allow a single game against her singles opponent, as she notched a 6-0 win prior to the Cougar retiring with Comella leading 2-0 in the second set.

Women's Tennis Closes Out FAU Open
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Miami University women’s tennis team competed in the final day of the Owl Cup on the campus of Florida Atlantic University Sunday, rounding out their rotations with doubles matches against Stony Brook and singles pairings against the host Owls. The RedHawks posted their strongest results of the week, taking all three doubles matches and winning five in singles. All three doubles teams put on dominant performances against the Seawolves, with the senior duo of Nelli Ponomarevaand Anastasiia Vasiukhina and the freshmen tandem of Priyana Kalita and Milana Lysova each taking their matches 6-1. Lena Babunski and Emily Struble were the other RedHawk winners, knocking off SBU’s Rodriguez/Foo by a score of 6-3.

RedHawks Strong Showing at Day Two of FAU Open
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Miami University women’s tennis team continued its play in the Florida Atlantic Owl Cup Saturday, the opening event of the spring season. The RedHawks spent the day facing off against Florida Atlantic in doubles, followed by singles matches against Georgia Southern. The ‘Hawks kicked off the day with a bang, taking three of their four doubles matches against the host Owls in the morning session. Miami experimented with its doubles lineups, and found success in the all-freshmen tandems of Priyana Kalita and Milana Lysova, who won 6-4, as well as that of Makenzie Myers and Melati Devi, who took their match 6-3. The other doubles winner was the pairing of Emily Struble and Lena Babunski, who defeated the FAU team of Thorns/Ruiz 6-3.

Women's Tennis Opens At FAU Open
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Miami University women’s tennis team opened play in the Florida Atlantic Owl Cup Friday, facing off against Georgia Southern in doubles and Stony Brook in singles. The hidden-dual tournament will continue through Sunday, Jan. 21. In doubles, the RedHawks took two of three matches from the Eagles. Senior Nelli Ponomareva paired with freshman Lena Babunski to edge the GSU tandem of de Winter/van Diemen, 6-4. The duo of Emily Struble and Milana Lysova also pulled out a victory, 6-3, against Truscott/Christian.

Women's Tennis Falls at Michigan State
East Lansing, Mich. – The Toledo women's tennis team traveled to East Lansing on Sunday, falling to the Michigan State Spartans by a final match score of 4-0. The Rockets were led in doubles play by senior Colleen O'Brien and sophomore Dee-Dee Leenabanchong who scored the lone victory for the Rockets on the match, posting a 6-3 triumph.

Rockets Open Season With 7-0 Victory
MAUMEE, Ohio – Toledo opened its spring season with a 6-1 victory over Chicago State at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club. The Rockets posted convincing victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles with senior Sidnay Huck, sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley and senior Colleen O'Brien each dropping just three games in their matches. Sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong posted a three-set win at No. 4 singles, while junior Kokoro Chishakineeded a tiebreaker in the first set en route to a 7-6, 6-0 win.

Women's Tennis Splits Matches In Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Western Michigan women's tennis team split a pair of away matches on Saturday as the Broncos fell to Indiana (6-1) and defeated Butler (7-0). The Brown and Gold are now 2-1 overall on the season. Earlier this morning against Indiana, junior Katja Fevralev won the lone point for the Broncos in the fourth position. Fevralev defeated Xiwei Cai in a tough 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) battle, improving to 2-0 in singles play. Junior Melina Lyubomirova had a hard fought match against Natalie Whalen but fell short with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) while junior Denise Azcui battled in her match against Caitlin Bernard but fell at No. 3.
