Double Overtime Ends in Tie at Xavier For Kent State

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Golden Flashes (4-3-1) tied, 1-1, with Xavier (4-3-2) on Thursday night at the XU Soccer Complex. The Flashes scored an early goal, but were unable to score the rest of the match.

Vital Kats gave the Flashes an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute by sending a shot past Xavier goalkeeper Libby Grace in the bottom right of the goal. It is Kats' team leading fourth goal of the season, and Hayden Pascoewas credited with her third assist.

Xavier scored the equalizer in the 43rd minute on a corner kick served in by Courtney Lankford and finished off with a header by Emma Westwater.
At the halftime break, Kent State lead Xavier in shots 6-4, and the Musketeers held the advantage on corner kicks 5-2.

The rest of the match went scoreless as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Golden Flashes outshot Xavier 4-0 in two overtime periods and 16-9 for the match. Xavier led in corner kicks 7-5.

Kristen Brots led Kent State with three shots, while Isabelle Mihail had two shots on goal.

Kent State's Ashleah McDonald allowed one goal while facing nine shots and moves to 3-2-1. Xavier's Grace Libby (0-0-1) allowed one goal and made seven saves while facing 16 shots.

The Golden Flashes will begin Mid-American Conference play next weekend, hosting Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. and Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
