NCAA Track & Field Regional Day 1 Results

After one day of competition, six student-athletes have punched their ticket to the  NCAA Championship meet in Eugene, Oregon. Akron's Terrell McClain will be making a repeat appearance at the Championships in the long jump. Kent State's Savory Fraga is joining him after an 11th place finish. In running events, Eastern Michigan's Jordann McDermitt and Bowling Green's Rachel Walny will race in the 10000m. At the MAC Championships the duo respectively finished 1-2. Miami's Marth Szekely (hammer throw) and Danielle Collier (javeline) both punched their tickets to TrackTown USA. Szekely finished 10th overall, while Collier held onto a 12th place finish.

Akron

University of Akron junior Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) punched his ticket to the NCAA Track and Field Championships (June 7-10) in Eugene, Ore., turning in a fourth-place qualifying performance in the men's long jump to lead the Zips' efforts on the opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round, hosted by the University of Kentucky, on Thursday, May 25.

Ball State
Ball State track & field sophomore sprinter Peyton Stewart turned in a time of 11.85 to place 36th among 48 of the region's top runners in the 100m dash Thursday evening at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at the University of Kentucky's Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

Bowling Green
Redshirt sophomore Rachel Walny broke her own school record in the 10,000 and used a late surge to earn a spot to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Walny finished 11th in 33:55.49 on the first day of the NCAA Division I East Region Preliminary, hosted by the University of Kentucky.

Buffalo
Joshua Gali and Mitchell Moore competed in the men's 400m. Gali clocked in at 47.49 to place fourth in his heat and 21st overall. His time was third fastest outside of the Top-Three from each heat. He qualified to compete in the quarterfinals of the 400m, which are Friday at 5:45pm.

The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team kicked off the NCAA East Regional today, May 25, in Lexington, Ky. A trio of Eagles represented EMU in field events throughout the rain-filled day.

The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team got the NCAA East Regional rolling today, May 25, in Lexington, Ky. with a trio of events. Eastern had one mid-distance runner, one distance runner, and one pole vaulter compete on the day, with junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) qualifying to the upcoming NCAA Championships.

A week-long layoff proved no obstacle for the surging Miami track and field program as four competitors kept their seasons going at the NCAA East Region Preliminary on Thursday. Martha Szekely and Danielle Collier punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon in the hammer throw and javelin, respectively.
