AKRON, Ohio -- In impressive fashion, the No. 4 Kent State Golden Flashes won three-straight games on the final day of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament to claim their third MAC title in school history after defeating No. 2 Ohio, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Firestone Stadium.

The Golden Flashes entered the day having to win every game to continue its run for the MAC title, and they did just that. Kent State began championship Saturday by defeating Northern Illinois, 9-3, to move onto the first championship match with the Bobcats.

Ohio entered the contest with Kent State as the remaining undefeated team in the tournament, but that did not faze the Golden Flashes. Kent State shutout the Bobcats, 1-0, thanks to a RBI double by Holly Speers in the top of the 8th inning.

With their second win of the day, a winner take all game remained between Kent State and Ohio.

Kent State did all of their damage in the first inning of the final game, scoring three runs. From that point on, Kent State's ace Ronnie Ladines took over and held Ohio in check shuting out the Bobcats and limiting them to just three hits.

When the final out was made, the Kent State Golden Flashes were champions.
