AKRON, Ohio – Led by spectacular defense and another dazzling performance by Savannah Jo Dorsey, the No. 2 Ohio Bobcats advanced to the 2017 MAC Championship game for the third time in four years. The Bobcats defeated No. 4 Kent State, 2-0. The Bobcats will play for the title Saturday at 1 p.m. ET against Kent State, Northern Illinois or Western Michigan.
In the circle, Dorsey pitched all seven innings, allowing no runs on six hits for her third-straight complete game shutout. Dorsey record nine strikeouts and only walked two batters.
At the plate, Ohio scored two runs on six hits and capitalized on three Kent State errors. Jamie Wren went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Alex Day went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. MacKenzie Brunswick would go 1-for-2 with an RBI. Taylor Saxton, Morgan Geno and Mikayla Cooper all reached on base hits.
Ohio’s 39 wins this season ties the Ohio record for wins in a single season, which was set in 1995.
