BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan Eagles went back-to-back claiming the 2017 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship Title Saturday afternoon.
“I felt like for us at Eastern, we put together four events for the first time all season,” said EMU Head Coach Sarah Brown. “We went 49 on every event and I felt like the kids just brought the energy and they didn’t let up.”
EMU tallied 196.500 points while host Bowling Green was runner up with 196.400. Central Michigan placed third with 196.100 and Western Michigan in fourth with a 196.075. Northern Illinois placed fifth with 195.725, Kent State in sixth with 194.850, and Ball State in seventh with a 194.750.
Western Michigan senior Anna Corbett took first on vault with a score of 9.925.
On the uneven bars, there was a six-way tie for first with a 9.9. CMU’s Kasey Janowicz, EMU’s Natalie Gervais, Lacey Rubin and Catie Conrad, Kent State’s Rachel Stypinski, NIU’s Ashley Potts, and WMU’s Jessie Peszek all took home the gold.
Stypinski, who was named MAC Gymnast of the Year, claimed the balance beam title with a score of 9.950.
On the floor exercise, there was a two way tie for champion as BGSU’s Kayla Rose and CMU’s Macey Hilliker scored a 9.950.
Stypinki was crowned the all-around champion with a score of 39.500 while CMU’s Kasey Janowicz took second with a score of 39.400. EMU’s Catie Conrad took third with a score of 39.350.
