DELAND, Fla. – The Akron Zips softball team had a tough opening day at Stetson's Lead-Off Classic on Friday. The Zips (0-2) fell to Kansas, 2-1 in the opener, and dropped an 11-5 decision to host Stetson in the afternoon.

MACON, Ga. – The Kent State softball team lost its first season opener since 2010 in heartbreaking fashion but returned to the field 30 minutes later for a run-rule victory Friday on the first day of play at the Mercer Invitational. The Golden Flashes started the day with a 3-2 loss in eight innings to Dayton and then pounded host Mercer, 9-1, in five innings.

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Despite a strong offensive showing in its season opener, the Miami University softball team dropped a pair of games to open the Rosemont TCS Indoor Tournament on Friday. The RedHawks fell to Butler, 13-12, in the opener. UIC then took an 8-0, six inning victory in the nightcap.
