Lantry Finishes Second and Gunning Eighth at Midlands
Bryan Lantry finished second and Jake Gunning took eighth on the final day at Midlands hosted by Northwestern University on Saturday. Lantry became the first wrestler in University at Buffalo history to advance to the championship match at Midlands - one of the nation's premiere wrestling tournaments. After Lantry won all three of his matches yesterday, the redshirt-junior advanced to Saturday's semifinals. In the semifinals, Lantry rallied to defeat second-seed Scott Delvecchio of Rutgers. Lantry trailed, 3-1, in the third period before gaining a takedown to tie the match at three and then road out Delvecchio for the remainder of the match to earn the riding time point and the 4-3 victory.

Lantry and Gunning Advance to Day Two of Midlands
Bryan Lantry and Jake Gunning have advanced to day two of the 55th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern on Friday night. The Bulls have 12 wrestlers competing in one of the nation's premiere wrestling tournaments. Lantry won all three of his matches to advance to Saturday's semifinals. Lantry defeated Giovanni Ghione of Penn, 11th-seeded Dresden Simon of Central Michigan and third-seeded Korbin Myers of Edinboro en route to Saturday. He will face second-seeded Scott Delvecchio of Rutgers in the semifinals.

Smith First, Chippewas Third At Midlands
Mason Smith won the 141-pound title to highlight an outstanding showing by the Central Michigan wrestling team at the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Sears Centre Arena. Five Chippewas placed in the prestigious tournament as CMU finished third in the team standings with 108 points. Iowa, which is ranked seventh by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, won the team title with 156.5 points. No. 17 Rutgers was second with 109.5. Among those in the 59-team field that finished behind the 21st-ranked Chippewas were No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Illinois and No. 15 South Dakota State.

Six Chippewas Remain Alive at Midlands
Six Central Michigan wrestlers remain alive in their respective weight classes at the Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern, at Sears Centre Arena. Three Chippewas, Mason Smith (141 pounds), Justin Oliver (149) and Jordan Ellingwood (184), went undefeated on Friday during the opening day of the tournament and are scheduled to wrestle in semifinal matches on Saturday. Three other CMU wrestlers, Logan Parks (165), CJ Brucki (174) and Matt Stencel (285), each dropped a match on Friday but remain alive in their respective consolation brackets.

MacCallum Places Eighth at Midlands
The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team concluded action at the 55th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships this evening, Dec. 30, at Sears Centre Arena. Redshirt junior Kayne MacCallum was the lone Eagle to place in his respective weight class, taking eighth-place at 184 lbs. MacCallum, who took eighth among 30 of the top competitors at that weight class in the country, was EMU's third straight placer at The Midlands in the last three years of competition. It was the first time the Eagles have placed a wrestler in the top-eight at three straight Midlands in program history. As a team, EMU finished tied for 21st out of 38 teams with 21.5 team points.

Wrestling Advances Three at Midlands
Eastern Michigan wrapped competition at day one of the 55th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships Friday evening, Dec. 29, at Sears Centre Arena. Of EMU's nine grapplers to hit the mats, three advanced to day two of the prestigious tournament. Redshirt senior Kyle Springer, redshirt sophomore Zac Carson, and redshirt junior Kayne MacCallum are all still alive in their respective weight classes, and will look to place tomorrow against some of the top competition in the country. All told, EMU won 15 bouts on the day, and sits in 20th-place out of 38 teams with 18 team points.

Flashes Split Another Pair At South Beach Duals
Kent State (8-4) capped off a 2-2 weekend at the South Beach Duals Saturday with a 31-3 victory over future Mid-American Conference member SIU-Edwardsville. The Golden Flashes split their day two dual meets beginning with a hard fought 27-7 loss to No. 12 Cornell inside the Deerfield Beach Sportsplex. Junior Anthony Tutolo (133) went 2-0 on the day at 133 with a 6-2 victory against the Big Red and a 22-7 tech fall against SIUE. His win against the Cougars was the first of nine straight for the Flashes.

Flashes Top Columbia, Fall To Missouri
Kent State (7-3) claimed a convincing 25-12 win over Columbia Friday, as the Golden Flashes split a pair of dual meets on day one of the South Beach Duals. No. 4 Missouri handed the Flashes a 44-3 setback to start the day inside the Deerfield Beach Sportsplex. Seven Flashes had their hands raised against the Lions, beginning with junior Anthony Tutolo at 133. The teams traded forfeits and 125 and 149 as wins by Tutolo and sophomore Tim Rooney gave Kent State a 12-6 edge after four matches.

Tigers Close South Beach Duals With Perfect Mark
No. 4 Mizzou Wrestling (12-0, 3-0 MAC) recorded wins over No. 22 Rider (5-2, 0-0 EWL) and No. 12 Cornell (4-2, 0-0 IVY) on Saturday to finish the inaugural South Beach Duals with a 4-0 record. The Tigers began the day with a 31-8 win over the Broncos, then finished with a 27-11 win over the Big Red. Over the two-day, four-dual tournament, Mizzou won 28 of 38 bouts wrestled and outscored its opponents, 129-31. With the win, Mizzou improves to 12-0 on the season, just the third time in program history Mizzou has reached that mark. The 2017-18 campaign joins Mizzou's 15-0 season in 1967-68, and its 24-0 season in 2014-15.

Lavallee Earns 100th Win; Tigers Get Two Dual Wins
On the first day of the inaugural South Beach Duals in Deerfield Beach, Fla., No. 4 Mizzou Wrestling (10-0, 3-0 MAC) recorded wins over Kent State (7-3, 0-2 MAC) and No. 24 North Carolina (3-4, 0-0 ACC) to remain perfect on the 2017-18 campaign. The Tigers dominated the competition for the majority of the day, recording bonus point victories in 10 of 15 victories, winning 44-3 over the Golden Flashes and 27-9 over the Tar Heels. With two wins on the day, redshirt senior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee recorded the 100th win of his career, becoming the 27th member of Mizzou's exclusive 100-win club.

The Northern Illinois University wrestling team closed out the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championship with 7.5 points and stood in 31st place. University of Iowa is leading this 59-team field with 91 points.

Ohio:
Bobcats Return From Midlands
Redshirt senior Cullen Cummings (Woodridge, Ill.) and redshirt junior Zack Parker led the way for Ohio in their respective classes in the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships (Dec. 29-30). Parker would start the tournament ranked 10th in the 285 class, facing Princeton's Christia Araneo. Parker would earn a 6-1 decision victory over Araneo to move on to the next round. Parker would then face Butterbrod in the round where he would secure a 5-3 decision win to move on to the quarterfinals. He would then face second-seeded Sam Stoll of Iowa, where he would suffer a 5-3 decision loss.

Early Places Eighth at Midlands
Old Dominion’s Larry Early earned an eighth place finish in the 157 pound weight class at the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championship on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Northwestern. The redshirt sophomore fell in the seventh place match to Andrew Crone of Wisconsin. Early won five matches at the prestigious tournament.
At the Lock Haven Classic, Steven Simpson, Kenan Carter, George Walton (unat), and Will Hilliard (unat) won in their respective weight class. Eight other Monarchs placed at Lock Haven, including Mason Wohltman (4th), Jake DiBenedetto (Unat-3rd), Luke Drugac (2nd), Ben Schram (3rd), Jaquan Loney (3rd), Shane Jones (4th), Antonio Agee (2nd), Noah Bushman (2nd), and Ali Wahab (2nd).
