Central Michigan:
Oliver Takes Title in Las Vegas: CMU Finishes Seventh in 45-team field

Central Michigan’s Justin Oliver completed an impressive run through the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday, defeating North Carolina’s Troy Heilmann, 9-7, in the title match at 149 pounds. Oliver finished the prestigious tournament a perfect 6-0, outscoring his opponents 60-12 and posting a technical fall and a major decision among his victories. The junior who is ranked sixth in the weight class by InterMat.com led a strong showing by the 19th-ranked Chippewas, who finished seventh in the 45-team field, which included 11 top-25 teams.

Two other Chippewas, Mason Smith (141) and Jordan Ellingwood (184), placed in the top eight in their respective weight classes. Smith was fifth, while Ellingwood was eighth. Oliver dominated his opponents through the two-day event. He scored a 12-0 major decision victory over fifth-ranked Colton McCrystal of Nebraska in the semifinals. Oliver Leads Chips In Las Vegas

Four Central Michigan wrestlers remain alive and in the hunt for a medal after day one at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Justin Oliver (149) went 4-0 on Friday at the prestigious tournament to lead the Chippewa contingent. Three other Chippewas – CJ Brucki (174), Mason Smith (141) and Jordan Ellingwood (184) – are in their respective consolation brackets. The 19th-ranked Chippewas are in seventh place of the 45-team tournament. No. 9 Michigan is first with 90 points, followed by Ohio State, 85; Nebraska, 73.5; Arizona State, 71.5; Northern Iowa, 68; Virginia Tech, 56.5; and the Chippewas, 52. Full Story...

Eastern Michigan:
Eagles Complete Run at Cliff Keen Invite

Eastern Michigan concluded its run at the 2017 Cliff Keen Invite Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. EMU's lone wrestler to compete on the day, nationally ranked redshirt senior Gage Hutchison, was defeated in his only match, finishing just outside of the top-eight placing wrestlers. The heavyweight drew No. 25 nationally ranked Andrew Dunn out of Virginia Tech. Hutchison controlled the match early on, as he led 11-2 near the end of the second period, but Dunn reversed out of the control of Hutchison, and caught the big man on his back for the second period fall. The loss dropped Hutchison just outside of the top-eight in the 43-man bracket, and just shy of his second-straight top-eight finish at Cliff Keen, after taking seventh at heavyweight last season. Full Story...

Hutchison Paces EMU on Day One of the Cliff Keen Invite

The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team completed day one of the Cliff Keen Invitational this evening, Friday, Dec. 1 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Of the 10 Eagles to hit the mats, nationally ranked redshirt senior heavyweight Gage Hutchison will be the lone wrestler to advance to day two of the prestigious tournament. Despite only advancing one grappler to the second day, it was not an unsuccessful day overall for the Eagles. EMU racked up 16 wins, totaling 27 tournament points. Out of the 45 teams, Eastern sits in 22nd place. Full Story...

Kent State:
Bardezbain is Bright Spot for Flashes on Day One of Cliff Keen

West Coast native Will Bardezbain led Kent State on day one of the 36th annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational Friday.  Bardezbain won his first three matches of the 125-pound bracket, including an 18-15 thriller over No. 4 seed, Dalton Macri (North Carolina). The Flashes also had success in the lighter weights from junior Anthony Tutolo at 133.  Tutolo drew an opening round bye, before defeating West Virginia's Matt Schmitt 6-4.  He fell to No. 1 seed Stevan Micic (Michigan), but bounced back with a 5-1 win over Armando Torres (Eastern Michigan).  A 5-3 loss ended Tutolo's bid for a top eight finish.  Full Story... 

Missouri:
Tigers Defeat Old Dominion, 36-3, to Open MAC Slate

Mizzou Wrestling (7-0, 1-0 MAC) opened its conference schedule with a 36-3 win over Mid-American Conference foe Old Dominion on Saturday at the Hearnes Center. After dropping the opening the match, Mizzou rolled out nine straight victories, and received bonus point wins in the dual from redshirt junior 149-pounder Grant Leeth, redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis and redshirt heavyweight Austin Myers. With the win, Mizzou remains undefeated in duals this season, improving to 7-0. The perfect start to the season is the ninth 7-0 start for Mizzou under head coach Brian Smith and the 11th all-time in program history.  Full Story...

Northern Illinois:
Huskies Suffer a Pair of Setbacks at Hoosier Duals

The Northern Illinois University Wrestling team fell to Indiana, 33-6, in its first dual of the day and suffered a 28-12 decision to Cleveland State in its second at the Hoosier Duals on Saturday. Redshirt-junior Alijah Jeffery and redshirt-sophomore Caleb Gossett led the way for the Huskies on the day.  Jeffery defeated Indiana's Garrett Peeple, 3-0, at 133, while Gossett posted a 12-6 victory over the Hoosiers' Fletcher Miller at 285. 
 
Against Cleveland State, Jeffery defeated Andrew Coghill in a tech fall, 18-3, while Gossett posted a 14-3 victory over Colin Kelly.  Jeffery is 9-4 on the season and the active leader on the squad in overall wins at 60. Gossett defeated Colin Kelly, 14-3, and improved to 8-4 on the season and is 37-31 in his career as a Huskie. Full Story...

Ohio:
Wrestling Falls To Appalachian State

The Ohio wrestling team (0-2) opened the home portion of the 2017-18 schedule suffering a 18-14 loss to Appalachian State (3-1) on Saturday (Dec. 2). "I think we just have to fight hard the whole time. We were in every match, but then we got outfought in a couple of places and that just can't happen," said head coach Joel Greenlee. "We're young, we're not wrestling one hundred percent of our lineup, but we need to go out there and fight and score points the whole time. We look bad in positions we've worked on for two weeks, we've got to keep working."  Full Story...

Old Dominion:
Monarchs Fall To No. 6 NC State, 25-15

The Old Dominion (1-2) wrestling team fell to No. 6 NC State (7-0), 25-15 on Thursday night at the Reynolds Coliseum. The Monarchs led the dual through five bouts, which led to the final bout being the decision maker. The Wolfpack ultimately won the last three bouts to win the dual. To start off the night, Michael McGee won with a tech fall over Thomas Cox of NC State to give the Monarchs a 5-0 lead.  Full Story...

Monarchs Drop Conference Dual at Missouri

The Old Dominion (1-3, 0-1 MAC) wrestling team fell to conference foe; No. 4 Missouri (7-0, 1-0 MAC) on Saturday afternoon in the Hearnes Center, 36-3. Wins by nine Tiger wrestlers propelled Missouri over the Monarchs. To start off the dual, true freshman Michael McGee defeated his second ranked opponent this season with a win over No. 15 Barlow McGhee, 2-1 through three overtime periods.  Full Story...
