AKRON, Ohio -- Akron captured the 2017 MAC East Division title on the strength of a 24-14 victory over rival Kent State while claiming its third consecutive Wagon Wheel victory at InfoCision Stadium– Summa Field on Tuesday night. With the win, Akron improved to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Zips will play for the 2017 MAC Championship on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Noon at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. against either Toledo or Northern Illinois. Kent finished the season at 2-10 overall and 1-7 in MAC play.
The Zips wasted no time entering Kent State territory as redshirt freshman QB Kato Nelson used seven plays to travel 75 yards for Akron's first score. The drive lasted 3:16, and started with a three-yard rush by senior RB Manny Morgan. Nelson followed with a 12-yard strike to senior WR A.J. Coney and a 24-yard rush of his own, entering the Golden Flashes' side of the field at the 36-yard line.

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Eastern Michigan (5-7, 3-5 MAC) finished out its home slate with a 34-31 win over Bowling Green (2-10, 2-6 MAC) on Senior Night, Tuesday, Nov. 21, at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium. With their fifth victory of the season, the Eagles totaled 12 wins over the past two seasons to notch the best two-year stretch since winning 13 from 1988-89. It was the ninth time this season that Eastern Michigan had a game decided by three points or less. With the win, Eastern Michigan moved to 3-6 on the season in games decided by one possession.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Miami came away with a dominant 28-7 win over Ball State in their season finale on Tuesday. The ‘Hawks now lead the newly-established Redbird Rivalry between the two schools 1-0. Playing in their last game with the ‘Hawks, two seniors – Sam Martin and Jared Murphy – accounted for the team’s opening two scores.
