Buffalo:
Bulls Drop Season Opener To Cal State Bakersfield, 22-14
The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped its season opener to CSU Bakersfield, 22-14, at Alumni Arena on Thursday night. The Roadrunners set the tone early with an upset 11-4 decision victory by Sergio Mendez over 14th-ranked Kyle Akins at 125 to take a 3-0 lead. Bryan Lantry tied things up with an 8-4 decision over Sean Nickell at 133. A major decision at 141 gave CSUB a 7-3 lead. Jason Estevez responded with a 7-6 decision over Kalani Tonge to cut the Roadrunner advantage to 7-6. CSUB dominated the middle weights, winning the next three matches to take a commanding lead in the match. The Bulls bounced back with a dominant performance at 184. Brett Perry earned a 16-5 major decision over Dominic Ducharme. Jake Gunning closed the match with another major decision win. The junior heavyweight beat Jarrod Snyder, 18-7.  Full Story…

Central Michigan:
Oliver First; 15 Chippewas Place At Michigan State Open
Central Michigan's Justin Oliver won the 149-pound weight class and 15 Central Michigan wrestlers placed on Sunday at the Michigan State Open at the Spartans’ Jenison Field House. Oliver, a junior who is ranked seventh nationally by WIN Magazine, went 4-0 on the day and defeated Ryan Deakin of Northwestern, 4-3, in the title match. Deakin is ranked 12th. No team scores were kept. The Chippewas, who are ranked 17th, are scheduled to wrestle on Saturday at the Eastern Michigan Open.  Full Story...

Eastern Michigan:
Wrestling Splits Tri-Dual at Campbell
Eastern Michigan wrestling split a pair of duals at Campbell University Sunday afternoon, Nov. 5. The Eagles (2-1) won a neutral site battle with American University, 22-16, while dropping the bout with the host Fighting Camels, 24-10. Against the American Eagles, EMU was bested in the first four matches to fall in a 13-0 hole early, but the Green and White stormed back, winning five of the last six, including two huge pins from redshirt sophomore Zac Carson and redshirt freshman Andrew McNally, which ended up being the difference in the match. Wrestling Posts Decisive 22-11 Win Over Gardner-Webb
The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team started the 2017-18 season with a commanding 22-11 dual victory over Gardner-Webb University Friday evening, Nov. 3. The Eagles (1-0) won seven of ten bouts to cruise to a decisive win. The dual initially began outside at John Henry Moss Stadium, home of Gardner-Webb's baseball program. However, due to slick conditions on the mat, the bout was moved indoors after five weight classes. Of the seven wins, only one came via bonus points for EMU, a major decision from redshirt senior Kyle Springer at 149 lbs.  Full Story...

Kent State:
Flashes Open Season With Three Wins In Two States
Kent State was nothing short of dominant in its first two duals of the season Friday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center.  The Golden Flashes opened their unconventional day with a 38-3 victory over Lake Erie followed by a 52-0 blanking Mercyhurst North East. Before heading to Clarion for a night dual with Utah Valley, the Flashes won 19 of 20 matches, including five pins and seven tech falls.  Full Story...

Missouri:
Tigers Hold Off No. 12 Illinois In Outside Dual

No. 5 Mizzou Wrestling opened its 2017-18 campaign Saturday by upending No. 12 Illinois, 20-17, at the Mizzou Softball Stadium. The dual was Mizzou's first ever outside dual, as 1,810 fans packed the stadium to cheer on the Black & Gold. Mizzou claimed victories in six of 10 bouts in the match, and received bonus point victories from redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman and redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis.  Full Story...

Northern Illinois:
Huskies Shine at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open
The Northern Illinois University wrestling team got off to a solid start, opening its 2017-18 season at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Saturday.  Three Huskie grapplers finished in the top-two in their respective weight classes. Redshirt-junior Bryce Gorman lead the way for the Huskies winning the championship match over league foe Wyatt Koelling of Missouri in a 10-4 decision. Brock Hudkins wrestled to a second-place finish at 125.  The Huskie sophomore posted an 11-1 major decision over Cole Manion of Grand View in his first match of the day and a 3-1 victory over Zac Gentzler of SIUE. Hudkins suffered a 5-2 setback to Jacob Schwarm of Northern Iowa.  Full Story...

Ohio:
Ohio Wrestling Takes Eighth At Hokie Open
The Ohio wrestling team finished in eighth place at the Hokie Open on Sunday (Nov. 5). UNC took first with 155.5 points while Appalachian State (118), Stanford (109), Army West Point (107) and Chattanooga (96) round out the top five.  Full Story...

Old Dominion:
Monarchs Finish Second Behind No. 8 Virginia Tech at Hokie Open
The Old Dominion wrestling team competed at the Hokie Open hosted by Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon. Kevin Budock and Killian Cardinale were crowned Hokie Open Champions, while Larry Early III defeated Stanford’s 2017 All-American. The Monarchs marked a second place finish with 188 points behind No. 8 Virginia Tech, who tallied 220 points. Highlighting the day, Larry Early defeated No. 7 Paul Fox of Stanford at 157 in the semifinal bout, 10-4.  Full Story...
