AKRON, Ohio -- The Akron football team earned bowl eligibility for the second time in three years with a 37-34 win over Ohio on Tuesday night at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. With the win, Akron moved to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in MAC play, while Ohio fell to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the league. In addition, the Zips are one win away from securing the MAC East title for the first time since 2005.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Kato Nelson and junior wide receiver Kwadarrius Smith led the Zips' offense with career-high numbers. Nelson tossed a career-best 322 yards in the air with a career-high four touchdowns, while Smith led the receiving corps with 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior wide receivers A.J. Coney and Austin Wolf also added touchdown receptions. Senior running back Manny Morgan led the ground attack 55 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while Nelson followed with 45 yards on 14 rushes.

KENT, Ohio -- Central Michigan senior quarterback Shane Morris threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns to lead Central Michigan to a 35-23 victory over Kent State at the Golden Flashes’ Dix Stadium. The win was the fourth straight for Central Michigan, lifting the Chips to 7-4, 5-2 MAC. The four-game win streak is the Chippewas’ longest since 2012, when it won its final three regular-season games and captured the Motor City Bowl. Central Michigan has won four straight in the regular season for the first time since 2009.
The Chippewas close the regular season at home on Friday, Nov. 24, with a MAC game against Northern Illinois. Morris completed 14 of 22 passes and connected with Mark Chapman and Corey Willis for his scoring tosses. The 297 yards was Morris’ second-highest total of the season. It was Chapman’s first touchdown catch since he caught three in the second game of the season against Kansas. Jonathan Ward led the Chippewa run game with 80 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.
