STOCKTON, Calif. – With the clock reading zero, Kent State (4-1) capitalized on a penalty corner to take down Pacific (0-2) in a 3-2 match where the Golden Flashes got stronger as the game continued.
Despite leading the Tigers 8-1 in shots during the opening 35 minutes, Pacific made its one shot count to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half
Alison Harmatz tied the game on a shot into the bottom corner on a breakaway opportunity.
Silvia Figa Malgosa gave the Flashes a 2-1 lead shortly after as she placed a deflection into the back of the net.
Pacific tied the game at the 54:22 mark on a penalty corner, but that same method would work against the home team to end the game. Kent State's
Berta Jover Llorens earned a penalty corner for Kent State as time expired to give the Flashes one more shot before having to enter overtime.
Ines Delpech rifled her chance into the cage as Figa Malgosa and
Jessica Nesbitt earned assists.
The Golden Flashes ended up outshooting the Tigers 14-8 and had five corners to their three. Delpech and Harmatz both led the team in shots with four each.
Krysti Lober contributed with three shots, two on goal.
Andrea Rinehart earned her fourth win of the young season with two saves.
Kent State returns home to Murphy-Mellis Field for two games next weekend, taking on Monmouth Friday at noon and Iowa at noon on Sunday.
