TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The top-ranked team in the nation stayed on a roll as Alabama beat Kent State 48-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday. The Crimson Tide built leads of 21-0 after one quarter and 41-0 at halftime, but outscored the Golden Flashes just 7-0 after the break. George Bollas came within a few inches of scoring a late touchdown while leading an impressive fourth-quarter drive in place of starting quarterback Mylik Mitchell, who left the game with an injury suffered in the closing minutes of the first half.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- (AP) Central Michigan rallied back from a 28-0 deficit, but it wasn't enough, as Virginia earned a 49-35 Saturday. The Chippewas (3-1), seeking their first 4-0 start since 1985, scored on four of five possessions after going behind 28-0 less than 20 minutes into the game. Cooper Rushthrew two touchdown passes to Corey Willis, including an 85-yarder, and Amari Coleman read a screen pass perfectly and scored on a 47-yard interception return.

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio football team (2-2, 0-0 MAC) defeated Gardner-Webb (1-3, 0-0 Big South) 37-21 on Saturday (Sept. 24). The Bobcats were led by quarterback Quinton Maxwell who went 11-for-14, 167 yards, and two touchdowns and receiver Sebastian Smith who had six receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

AKRON, Ohio -- The University of Akron football team dropped a close 45-38 decision to Appalachian State on Saturday at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. The Mountaineers improved to 2-2 overall, while the Zips fell to 2-2. Akron junior wide receiver Jerome Lane led the Akron receiving attack with 134 yards and a touchdown on nine catches. Junior Thomas Woodson threw for 353 yards completing 31-of-43 attempts, with three touchdowns. Sophomore RB Van Edwards ran for 89 yard in seven carries for one touchdown.

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Miami University's football team held the lead entering the fourth quarter, but was unable to bring the Victory Bell back to Oxford, falling 27-20 to the University of Cincinnati Saturday afternoon at Nippert Stadium. The RedHawks dropped to 0-4, while the Bearcats improved to 3-1 with the win. Sophomore quarterback Billy Bahl went 13-of-24 for 248 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, while sophomore wide receiever James Gardner hauled in six catches for 79 yards and one touchdown. As a whole, the Miami offense posted 313 yards and held possession for over 23 minutes, which were both season-lows.

DeKALB, Ill. -- Northern Illinois University rallied from down 21 points entering the fourth quarter to pull within five, but the Huskies could not finish the comeback as they fell to Western Illinois, 28-23, on Saturday afternoon at Huskie Stadium. Western Illinois (3-0) led 28-7 entering the fourth quarter until a 27-yard field goal from junior Christian Hagan in the first minute of the final quarter trimmed the Leatherneck lead to 28-10.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo football team rallied from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Army, 23-20, in overtime at UB Stadium on Saturday night. After Army missed a go-ahead field goal in the first overtime, Adam Mitcheson connected on a 33-yard field goal for the game winner.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan quarterback Zach Terrell was 18-of-27 passing for 270 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Broncos to a 49-31 win over Georgia Southern to remain unbeaten at 4-0 on the year. The Broncos also added big plays on defense and special teams as Darius Phillips returned a kickoff 100-yard for a touchdown and added an interception return for a touchdown of 70 yards in the win. Western Michigan's 4-0 start is its best since the program went 5-0 to open the season in 1994. The Broncos have a chance to match that record next Saturday when they face rival Central Michigan (3-1) in Mount Pleasant.

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Ball State quarterback Riley Neal threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns and added 72 yards rushing and two scores to lead the Cardinals to a 31-27 win at Florida Atlantic Saturday night. Neal's 2-yard touchdown run with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter capped the Ball State victory.
