YPSILANTI, Mich. – A historic offensive performance from the Eastern Michigan University football team powered the Eagles (1-0) to a season-opening 61-14 victory over Mississippi Valley State University Friday night, Sept. 2, at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium. A balanced effort led the Eagles to a 61-14 victory over the Delta Devils (0-1).
The Green and White's point total marked the most scored by EMU since 2004, when it also notched 61 against Central Michigan. The final tally also marked the largest margin of victory in a season opener since 2008.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo football team dropped its season opener, 22-16, to Albany at UB Stadium on Friday night. Despite outgaining the Great Danes, 403-238, in total offense, the Bulls couldn't recover from turning the ball over four times.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- One of the questions Ball State first-year head coach Mike Neu had to answer most frequently this preseason concerned how much improvement his team could make on the defensive side of the football. After all, it was a unit that ranked next-to-last in the Mid-American Conference last season, allowing nearly 520 yards and 36 points per game.
In Friday’s season opener at Georgia State, Ball State’s defense could not have performed much better. The Cardinals held the Panthers to 272 yards as Neu won his debut with his alma mater, 31-21 at the Georgia Dome.

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Junior quarterback Logan Woodside threw for a career-high 371 yards and three touchdowns and the Rocket defense dominated the Red Wolves' offense as Toledo dominated Arkansas State, 31-10, in the season opener for both schools at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, AR Friday night.
The victory, Toledo's third over ASU in the last three seasons, was the first regular-season win for head coach Jason Candle. Candle also coached the Rockets to victory in the final game of last season, a 32-17 triumph over Temple in the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl. Toledo dominated both sides of the ball, outgaining Arkansas State, 556-266, in total offense. At halftime, the Rockets had 293 yards of offense to just 80 for the Red Wolves. UT took a 21-3 lead into the locker room.
