AKRON, Ohio - In the opening round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, the University of Akron women's basketball team parlayed a 20-0 run to erase a nine-point, third-quarter deficit en route to defeating Miami University (9-21) by a final score of 66-54 on Monday, March 7, at James A. Rhodes Arena.

With the victory, the Zips advance to the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament where Akron will square off against fourth-seeded Toledo on Wednesday, March 9. Game time at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland is set for approximately 2:30 p.m.

Senior Anita Brown (Warren, Ohio) paced the Zips on the offensive end, scoring 29 points, collecting five rebounds and swiping five steals. Tonight's scoring output marked the 30th time in her career that Brown has scored 20 or more points in a game.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team secured its ticket to the Mid-American Conference Tournament with a first-round victory over Kent State Monday night, March 7. Despite back and forth play throughout the game, the Eagles (20-10, 10-8 MAC) pulled away from the Golden Flashes (6-23, 3-15 MAC) in the final quarter.

The Green and White had four finish in double digits, highlighted by a double-double from junior Cha Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio–Rogers). Sweeney finished with 14 points on the day, along with 10 assists and six steals, which tied her career-best. Additionally, fellow junior Janay Morton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.–Osseo) led the team in scoring with 17, along with shooting three-of-four from three-point land. Along with Morton, junior Phillis Webb (Brooklyn Park, Minn.–Osseo) and senior Chanise Baldwin (Pontiac, Mich.–Martin Luther King-Providence College)) pitched in 14 and 13, respectively. Baldwin also pulled down seven boards, three of which were on the offensive end.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Behind the play of the captains, the Western Michigan women's basketball team will be heading to Cleveland, Ohio after a 94-52 win over Northern Illinois Monday night at University Arena.

The Broncos improved to 17-14 overall and have now won at least one Mid-American Conference Tournament game for the fourth straight season under head coach Shane Clipfell. The Huskies will end the 2016 regular season at 11-19 overall. This set a new record for the largest win in MAC Tournament history, passing the 41-point victory posted over Akron by the 2003 MAC Championship team.

94 points scored surpassed the old season high of 92, which was set on the road at Buffalo earlier this season. WMU also held the Huskies to 14 second half points.

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team advanced to their fourth straight Mid-American Conference quarterfinal game with a dominant 60-44 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons on Monday night in the opening round at Alumni Arena. With the win, the Bulls improved to 17-13 overall on the season, giving the Bulls at least 17 wins in three straight seasons under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack.

"We are heading into a new season, the postseason, with Stephanie and Joanna leading us," said head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "Our two leaders have been consistent all season long and when others didn't believe or didn't know how to believe, these two stepped up. My hope is that we go out to Cleveland and get to stay long enough to show the country how special Stephanie and Joanna are and how lucky I am to coach them."
