Eastern Michigan Eagles Capture 2016 Gymnastics Championship

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan Eagles Claimed the 2016 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships for the second time in program history Saturday afternoon.
"It was going to be a close meet," said Eastern Michigan Head Coach Jay Santos. "It was going to come down to who survives today and who takes care of the details. They showed up and they had an amazing meet."
Eastern Michigan tallied 196.425 points while host Ball State was runner up with 195.650. Bowling Green placed third with 195.625 and Central Michigan in fourth with a 195.600. Kent State, the regular season champions, placed fifth with 195.325, Northern Illinois in sixth with 194.975, and Western Michigan in seventh with a 194.900.
Ball State Senior Denasiha Christian took first on vault with a score of 9.900.
On the uneven bars, there was a three way tie for first with a 9.900. Central Michigan’s Megan Lamphere and Bryttany Kaplan, and Eastern Michigan’s Kendall Valentin all took home the gold.
Bowling Green’s Laura Mitchell claimed the balance beam title with a score of 9.925.
On the floor exercise, BSU’s Christian asserted herself as the champion scoring a 9.950.
Bowling Green’s Lauren Feely was crowned the all-around champion with a score of 39.300 while Eastern Michigan’s Catie Conrad took second with a score of 39.275. Central Michigan’s Taylor Bolender took third with a score of 39.175.
