MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

MAC Wrestler of the Week
Colt Cotten, Buffalo—Senior, Benton, Pa. (Benton High School)

Buffalo senior Colt Cotten went to 2-0 on Sunday in wins over Indiana and Indiana Tech. In the first match of the Indiana dual, Cotten earned a 4-1 decision over 20th-ranked Chris Perez. The Bulls went on to defeat Indiana for their first ever victory over the Hoosiers. Later that day, Cotten won by technical fall over Robert Humphrey, 16-0. The win sparked the Bulls’ 19-16 victory over the Warriors.

Additional Nominees:
Stephen Suglio, Kent State—Junior, Richfield, Ohio (Revere High School)

Kent State junior Stephen Suglio tallied 11 team points for the Golden Flashes, going 2-0 in a pair of dual meets this past weekend at the Kent State Field House.  On Sunday, the junior 197-pounder needed just 4:06 to record a 17-2 tech fall victory over Chattanooga's Barrett Walthall.  Friday night, Suglio pinned Gardner-Webb's Drew Barrett in the first period after jumping out to a 10-0 lead. Suglio improved to 11-7 on the season with three pins and four tech falls.

Caden McWhirter, Northern Illinois—R-Freshman, Pratville, Ala. (Pratville High School)

Northern Illinois redshirt freshman Caden McWhirter continued his dual success by defeating The Citadel Bulldogs' returning NCAA qualifier, Aaron Walker, while snapping Walker’s dual win streak dating back to January of 2015. McWhirter secured a 6-0 lead in the first period but Walker fought back in the second and brought the score within one-point. The two traded points in the third but McWhirter held onto his lead and eventually came out on top, winning by decision, 15-11. McWhirter is now 11-4 on the season and 2-0 in MAC competition.
