Kent, Ohio -- For the third consecutive season, Kent State has claimed the MAC Field Hockey Championship title. The Golden Flashes defeated Miami in today's final match, 4-0. Not since 2000 has a team gone undefeated in Mid-American Conference play and then stormed through the MAC Tournament to take both titles.

The first half was an intense, scoreless battle where the RedHawks had a 7-5 advantage in shots but the Flashes had more shots on goal and more corner opportunities.

Kent State outshot Miami 15-1 in the second and completely took control of the game.

The first goal came five minutes in as Ines Delpech rifled a straight shot into the net giving assists to Silvia Figa Malgosa and Jessica Nesbitt.  Both also earned assists in the next goal as Krysti Lober and the corner crew executed a perfect play to make it a 2-0 game at the 57:10 mark.

Six minutes later, Laila Richter intercepted a ball and cruised down the left side of the field, wound up at the top of the circle and drilled a shot past the Miami keeper.  Not to be left out, with two seconds remaining in the match, Shannon Talbot also dribbled in from the left and made it a 4-0 final.

Lober led the Flashes with five shots while Delpech had four.  Andrea Rinehart earned her fifth shutout of the season with two saves in net.

Kent State has maintained its recent dominance in the MAC with its fifth-straight regular season championship and now its third-consecutive NCAA appearance.  The Flashes will find out where they play during the 2016 NCAA selection show that will air Sunday night at 10 p.m.  NCAA postseason action will begin Wednesday, November 9.
