MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan field hockey team lost its season finale on Friday, dropping a 3-1 Mid-American Conference decision to Ball State at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas finished 1-17 overall, 0-6 MAC. It was their 12th consecutive loss. CMU's lone win came on Sept. 3, over Quinnipiac, 2-1 in overtime.
Junior
Emily Barber scored CMU's goal with 4 minutes, 38 seconds remaining, cutting the Chippewas' deficit 2-1. The Cardinals answered 42 seconds later when Hannah Bohn scored to restore their two-goal lead.
"We've been playing a kicking back when we get down in a situation where we have to score a goal," second-year CMU coach
Molly Pelowski said. "And I was very pleased that we scored right away. At that point, you have to tighten up your defense and we just tried to make a play at the end line and it didn't happen."
The Chippewas held an 8-5 edge in penalty corners. The Cardinals outshot the Chippewas, 10-4.
Freshman
Abigail Ebersole made three saves in goal for Central Michigan. Senior mid
Olivia Wagner had the one CMU defensive save, and senior midfielder
Maude Stalars notched three shots.
"We had our chances," Pelowski said. "We made some critical errors that significantly impacted the outcome of the game. We needed to play smarter, we needed to make adjustments at the end of the half, and we made some but didn't make them all. That made a big difference."
