Dayton, Ohio – Bowling Green State University tennis' freshman Paula Comella Aguilo, sophomore Emily Witt and duo of Aguilo and senior Drew Fillis captured wins for the Falcons Friday evening against Northern Kentucky University, but the Orange and Brown were defeated 5-2 by Northern Kentucky University. At No. 2 singles, Aguilo took down Danielle Donahue in two sets winning the first 6-4 and the second 6-1. It was Aguilo's second win of the spring season in just her third match.

Bulls Blank Red Flash In Spring Opener

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's tennis team swept St. Francis (PA) on Saturday afternoon, 7-0, in their spring opener. The Bulls were facing an undermanned Red Flash team that had to forfeit third doubles and fifth and sixth singles. UB opened doubles play with a pair of victories as junior Margarita Kotok and senior Dayana Agasieva won at first doubles, 6-4, while the number two team of junior Laura Holterbosch and freshman Mercedes Losada Rubio also won by a 6-4 score.

Eagles Pick Up First Win Of 2016 In A 5-2 Decision Versus Oakland

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan University's tennis team opened the home portion of the 2016 spring season Friday, Jan. 22, when it welcomed Oakland University to the Chippewa Club for an afternoon affair. The Eagles (1-2) defeated the Golden Grizzlies (1-1), 5-2, in the home opener. The afternoon began with doubles play at the Chippewa Club, as the Green and White quickly grabbed the first point of the match. The No. 2 doubles squad of Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) and Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani) first made quick work of OU's Karine Celis and Juliana Guevara, 6-3, before Renu Sharma (Fardabad, India) and Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) sealed the point at No. 3 with a 6-2 victory over Sofia Borcuti and Daria Artamonova. The No. 1 singles duo of Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) and Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) remained undefeated on the dual season, picking up a 6-3 win over Tamara Blum and Elizabeth Guy.

Tennis Falls To Hoosiers In Impressive Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Miami University’s women’s tennis team came up just short Saturday afternoon, but produced a resounding regular season opener in its 4-3 loss to the 51st-ranked Indiana Hoosiers at the IU Tennis Center. The RedHawks (0-1) were impressive with first-flight victories in both doubles and singles, nearly earning their first triumph in 34 all-time meetings with the Hoosiers (1-0). Saturday’s effort was the closest result for Miami against Indiana since a 4-3 defeat in 2010. The highlight of the day was the terrific dual-match debut of freshman Anzhelika Shapovalova, as she dropped Indiana’s top player, Paula Gutierrez, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Gutierrez had won four straight matches entering Saturday’s action.

Huskies Down Lewis For Third Straight Season

AURORA, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women’s tennis team defeated Lewis for the third consecutive season and improved to 2-1 in the process this year, downing the Flyers by a 6-1 scoreline on Friday afternoon in Aurora, Ill. The Huskies (2-1) posted five wins in singles and added the doubles point to beat Lewis for the second straight year by the same 6-1 margin. Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Stony Brook) and Cristina Alvarez (Zaragoza, Spain/Cristorey and Sagrado Corazon de Jesus) won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches for the Huskies, while Abigail Dekkinga (Allegan, Mich./Allegan), Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) and Meghan Montgomerie (Irvin, Scotland/Beaconhurst) also added singles wins for NIU.

Rockets Pick Up First Victory at Cleveland State

TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo women's tennis team defeated Cleveland State 6-1 on Friday evening. UT picked up the doubles point, winning two of the three matches, and won five of six singles matches. Sophomores Megan Miller and Sidnay Huck and senior Lauren Thai each tallied a two-set victory in singles. Huck defeated Victoria Bensimon 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the No. 2 spot and Miller won 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 against Morgan Nix. Thai picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 versus Aleksandra Golawska.

Women's Tennis Rolls to 7-0 Win Over Detroit

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team won a dominating 7-0 match over Detroit Friday afternoon at West Hills. The Broncos improved to 3-1 this season while the Titans fell to 0-2 in the early parts of the spring season. WMU now leads the all-time series 8-0, with the Titans. The Broncos started out winning all three doubles matches as the duos of Tracy Kuhle/Melina Lyubomirova (No. 1), Barbare Eristavi/Katja Fevralev (No. 2) and Meika Ashby/Denise Azcui (No. 3) came out victorious.
