TOLEDO, Ohio -- For the second consecutive week, Toledo defeated a Power Five conference team in a game that went down to the final play. This time it was the Iowa State Cyclones of the Big 12 who fell to the Rockets, 30-23, in double overtime before a joyous crowd of 23,104 at the Glass Bowl Saturday night.

A week earlier, Toledo (2-0) knocked off then-No. 18 Arkansas of the SEC in Little Rock. That game was decided in regulation, with Toledo holding on to a 16-12 decision. It took two overtimes to settle the issue between the Rockets and Cyclones, with the contest ending with a fourth-down sack of Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson by senior linebacker Tre James on fourth and nine.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – On a day where the offense struggled to find its rhythm, The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York football team used three defensive scores and a safety to defeat Florida Atlantic, 33-15, on a 90-degree day at FAU Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Minnesota 10, Kent State 7

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Kent State sophomore defensive back Demetrius Monday returned a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown and added two interceptions as Kent State lost 10-7 at Minnesota on Saturday despite a valiant defensive effort.

Monday hit Minnesota's Rashad Still at the end of a 14-yard reception, forcing a fumble that he scooped up before racing down the Golden Gophers' sideline and into the end zone. The score cut Minnesota's lead to just three points with 9:44 to play in the third quarter.

A pair of Monday interceptions in the first half helped Kent State stay close going into the break, trailing the Gophers 10-0 on a 42-yard Ryan Santoso field goal in the first quarter and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Mitch Leidner to K.J. Mayle with just 58 seconds to play before the break.

Akron 52, Savannah State 9

AKRON, Ohio -- Akron senior nose tackle Cody Grice scored three of the Zips' seven touchdowns in Akron's first win of the season, defeating Savannah State, 52-9, Saturday afternoon at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field.  The Zips improved to 1-2 overall, while Savannah State dropped to 0-2.

Akron's run game led the charge for the Zips' offense, scoring five times and collecting 291 total yards on the ground. Grice owned a team-high and career-high three touchdowns. Senior RB Conor Hundley (Hamilton, Ohio) ran for a team-high 120 yards on 11 attempts with one score, marking the second 100-yard rushing performance of his career.

Sophomore QB Thomas Woodson (Monroeville, Pa.) completed 12-of-20 passes for 207 yards with a touchdown through the air and 11 rushes for 67 yards and touchdown on the ground. Sophomore QB Tra'Von Chapman (Kent, Ohio) also saw action for the Zips and was 6-for-13 for 128 yards and a score.

Syracuse 30, Central Michigan 27 (OT)

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Central Michigan's fourth quarter rally falls short in a 30-27 overtime loss at Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.  Chippewas quarterback Cooper Rush found Ben McCord for a 27-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left in regulation to force the overtime session.  

Syracuse running back Jordan Fredericks rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries, including the game winning 4-yard touchdown run in overtime.  Syracuse led almost the entire way and held a 24-10 lead at halftime. But the Chippewas battled back late to force overtime on a Cooper Rush 27-yard touchdown pass to Ben McCord with seven seconds remaining in regulation, capping off a 12-play, 90 yard drive that took just 2:10.

ATHENS, Ohio -- On a rain-soaked, lightning-filled afternoon at Peden Stadium, redshirt freshman Papi White had 132 total yards and scored his first two touchdowns as a Bobcat as Ohio defeated Southeastern Louisiana 35-14 on Saturday, September 19.

"We were supposed to win, but I knew it wouldn’t be easy. But I wanted it to be. It didn’t just quite play out—it played out like I thought it would be. It was going to be a fairly good football game," said Ohio heead coach Frank Solich.

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- In the Mid-American Conference opener, the Ball State football team pulled off a 28-17 victory over host Eastern Michigan. The Cardinals trailed 17-0 midway through the second quarter before rolling off 28 straight points.  With the win, Ball State improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC while Eastern Michigan falls to 1-2 and 0-1.

“It wasn’t an easy win. This is a much-improved team. But to come on the road and get a win here is a nice start,” Ball State head coach Pete Lembo said. “We’re still learning a lot about our football team and we still have a lot to fix, but we’re certainly going to take it and be happy with the result.”

No. 1 Ohio State 20, Northern Illinois 13

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Northern Illinois University Huskies forced five turnovers, including three interceptions, and battled No. 1 Ohio State to the end before coming up a touchdown short and falling 20-13, to the Buckeyes before 104,095 at Ohio Stadium.

"When you lose a game, the positives don't outweigh the negatives," said NIU Head Coach Rod Carey.  "You've got to make the play and take advantage of the opportunities.  We will learn from this.  They made more plays than we did, but we had plenty of opportunities to win this football game."

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green Falcons lost a 44-41 decision to the Memphis Tigers on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19) in a hard-fought contest at Doyt L. Perry Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio. The game was the Falcons' season opener at home and the first of five home games during the 2015 season.

The Falcons continued to be a juggernaut on offense, as they racked up more than 30 points and over 500 yards for the third time in three games this season. Today, the team's total was 579 yards on 74 plays from scrimmage, or an average of nearly eight yards per play.  Quarterback Matt Johnson continued his electric play by throwing for 443 yards and rushing for 41 more. He threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score. He increased his season passing totals to 1,358 yards and 12 touchdowns with just one interception thrown.

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Despite a late touchdown reception by Jamal Wilson and 393 yards through the air from Blake Frohnapfel, the University of Massachusetts football program dropped its home opener to Temple, 25-23 at Gillette Stadium Saturday afternoon.

"I am proud of the way the guys responded from last week, I didn't think that was the football team I had been coaching and the assistant coaches did a nice job of getting the guys ready," head coach Mark Whipple said. "They competed and found a way to get there at the end. We probably celebrated a bit too early and that can be happen. Credit Temple. They made the plays at the end of the game that you need to make and that's why we came up on the short end."

OXFORD, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati (2-1) scored a touchdown with 1:13 to play to lift the Bearcats to a 37-33 win at Yager Stadium on Saturday evening.

The RedHawks captured a 33-30 lead with 7:21 to play, but Cincinnati's Hayden Moore took the ball in for Cincinnati from 1 yard out with just over a minute to play to ice an 8-play, 66-yard game-winning drive for the Bearcats in the 120th playing of the Battle for the Victory Bell.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan defeated Murray State on the 24th annual CommUniverCity Night for the Broncos' first win of the season, 52-20.  Redshirt junior quarterback Zach Terrell tied a career high with four touchdowns passes and threw for 355 yards, completing 25 of 30 attempts. Three of those strikes were in the first half, as WMU opened a 24-6 lead.

Junior receivers Daniel Braverman and Corey Davis both caught two touchdowns and had over 100 yards receiving. It was Braverman’s third-straight 100-yard receiving game Davis’s second of the season. Braverman finished with career-highs in receptions (14) and receiving yards (167), with the former mark tying for third in a single game at WMU.
