Broncos Advance To Meet Ball State In Championship Game

AKRON, Ohio -- AKRON, Ohio- No. 5 seeded Western Michigan is headed to the championship round of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Softball Championship after eliminating No. 4 Central Michigan Saturday morning, 7-0.

The Broncos have advanced through the one-loss bracket after eliminating No. 8 Ohio, No. 3 Miami, No. 1 Kent State and Central Michigan. WMU will battle No. 2 Ball State for the title at 1 p.m. today, and will need to defeat Cardinals twice for the championship.

Junior pitcher Allyson Kus threw a complete-game three-hit shutout against the Chippewas, improving to 11-9 on the season. She struck out six, one shy of her career high.

WMU sophomore left fielder Ivy Schaaf gave the Broncos the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run to left field.

The Bronco bats got hot in the sixth, racking up five more runs on seven hits to put the game away. Sophomore third baseman Kelsea Cichocki and sophomore designated player Erin Binkowski started the barrage with back-to-back solo home runs.
