Akron Zips Claim 2015 MAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Title

MUNIE, Ind. - Akron claimed its sixth title at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday hosted by Ball State University. The Zips finished with 142 points, Eastern Michigan finished second with 128 points, and in third, Kent Statewith 124 points. Following was NIU (107), Central Michigan (69), Western Michigan (53), Toledo (52), Buffalo (51), Bowling Green (48), Miami (24), Ohio (11), Ball State (9).
To start off the final day, Akron’s Claudia Garcia Jou won the women's high jump clearing a MAC record height of 1.87m. Kent State’s Dior Delophont placed second at 1.81m, and in third, Akron's Skyler Willis (1.81m).
In the discus, Kent State's Danniel Thomas claimed back-to-back titles with a mark of 58.77m. In second, Central Michigan’s Devene Brown threw 52.97m and in third, Northern Illinois Tyra Bickham (49.94m).
In the women's triple jump, Kent State's Dior Delophont won her third consecutive title with a MAC Championship record spot of 13.26m. Eastern Michigan’s Dace’ Dreimane jumped 12.87m while Akron's Weronika Gaudyn finished third (12.48).
In the women's 4x100 meter relay, Northern Illinois took first place with a time of 45.72. Bowling Green placed second with a time of 45.77, and in third, Akron with a time of 45.81.
Eastern Michigan's Victoria Voronko won her second straight 1500 meter run with a time of 4:24.70 while her teammate Taylor Knoll placed second with a time of 4:25.11. Toledo’s Megan Wright finished third crossing at 4:27.53.
Northern Illinois Latesha Bigby won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.52. Akron's Skyler Willis and Miami’s Alexus Jimson-Miller placed in the second and third spots with times of 13.57 and 13.71.
Western Michigan's Ayiana Gaines claimed gold in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 53.41 while Kent State’s Tyler Williams took second with a time of 54.68. Akron’s Daziah Green placed third with a time of 54.75.
In the women's 100 meter dash, Akron’s Rachel Christian placed first with a time of 11.63 while Northern Illinois A’Iesha Irvin-Muhammad and Bowling Green’s Alicia Arnold placed second and third with a times of 11.69 and 11.72.
Buffalo’s Meghan Manley placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.07 while Kent State’s Taylor Farquhar took home the gold in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.91.
Northern Illinois A’Iesha Irvin-Muhammad claimed the title in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 23.94. Bowling Green’s Alicia Arnold placed second (23.99) and Buffalo's Camaria Long in third (24.01).
Western Michigan’s Maria McDaniel claimed the title in the women's 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:23.93.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Northern Illinois took home the title with the team of Latesha Bigby, Julie Cronin, AShanti Hutton and A’Iesha Irvin-Muhammad finished with a time of 3:39.94.
