MUNCIE, Ind. - The Akron Zips and Miami RedHawks men and Akron Zips women each lead after the first day of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships at Ball State University.

Bowling Green's Brooke Pleger won the women's hammer throw for the third consecutive year with a distance of 69.72. She broke her previous MAC Championship record from last year of 66.68m.  Placing second was Kent State’s Jackie Leppelmeier with a throw of 61.47 and in third, Akron's Alexis Cooks (59.97).

Akron’s Bryce Lemon won the men's javelin title with a throw of 66.25. Finishing in second was Miami’s Tyler Yee with a distance of 63.43m and in third, Akron’s John Dahlstrand (60.51).

Akron's Caroline Hasse grabbed the women’s pole vault title clearing 4.01m while Eastern Michigan’s Natalie Uy placed second (3.86m).

Akron’s Jessica Delic won the MAC Title in javelin throwing 46.45m. Western Michigan’s Jade Madison took second place with a distance of 45.54 and in third, Toledo’s Carly Molls (45.44m).

In the heptathlon, Eastern Michigan's Sarah Chauchard leads with 3,375 points after day one. Following is NIU’s Claudette Day (3,338) and Latesha Bigby (3,303), Buffalo’s Emma Siuciak (3,294), Akron’s Jaclyn Siefring (3,206) and EMU's Kate Wolanin (3,102).

After the first day of the decathlon, EMU’s Solomon Ijah leads with 4,075 points. Following is Ijah’s teammate Levi Selvig (3,648), Akron's Quentin Cieslinski (3,569) and Kent State’s Tyler Jones (3,290).

Kelsey Hildreth won the women's 10,000 meter run with a time of 34:37.50, while Miami's Joe Stewart won the men's 10,000 meter run with a time of 29:38.30.

Competition continues tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw. Fans can follow the action throughout the meet with live results.
