Huskies Fall To DePaul, 6-1
CHICAGO - The Northern Illinois University women's tennis suffered defeat when it dropped a 6-1 match to No. 32 DePaul on Saturday afternoon, but senior Nelle Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) improved her undefeated record this season to 18-0 by winning her singles match in three sets against Yuliya Shupenia in the No. 1 matchup.

Youel and doubles partner Cristina Alvarez (Zaragoza, Spain/Cristorey and Sagrado Corazon de Jesus) didn't finish their doubles match for the second consecutive time, maintaining their 8-0 record as a pair,as DePaul locked up the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 contests.
The Huskies dropped the No. 2 through No. 6 singles matches, but NIU women's tennis head coach Tanya Gombera wasn't discouraged, knowing that her team competed hard against one of the top teams in all of college tennis.
"I felt the team gave a good effort against a very strong DePaul team," Gombera said. "We were a few points from taking the doubles point today but unfortunately fell short. I thought in singles we competed really hard, and I am really proud of the effort today."
NIU will now head south to Florida for a trio of matches over spring break. The Huskies will face Bucknell on March 10 in Orlando, Fla., before meeting Bethune Cookman and Hampton on March 11 in Daytona, Fla.

ORLANDO, FL - The Toledo women's tennis team (9-4) won its third-consecutive game on its spring break trip, defeating South Dakota 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. It was the Rockets' seventh win in their last eight contests.
"This was a solid team win today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "The conditions were tough and I was proud of the battle we put up. I felt like our energy and fire were great."
Toledo swept the doubles matches, earning the doubles point once again, the 12th time in 13 matches this season.

Women's Tennis Tops Quinnipiac, 6-1
ORLANDO, FL – The Toledo women’s tennis team won its second-straight match on Monday morning, defeating Quinnipiac 6-1 in the second of three spring break matchups.
“Today’s match was much closer than the 6-1 score line,” graduate assistant coach James Thorp said. “We did a good job picking up some tight matches and playing well during the big points. Our energy today was much better than yesterday, but it is still a work in progress. It is easy to be positive and energetic when we are playing well, but we need to work on keeping it up every point of every match if we are going to be successful.”
The Rockets claimed the doubles point once again, as they have won the match’s first point in 11 of 12 contests this season.
Senior Lexy Pitt and junior Emily Mazzola improved to 9-3 on the year with an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot, while senior Pia Rygh and sophomore Lauren Thai won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles for their seventh win of the year.
The duo of junior Mackenzie Bowman and freshman Sidnay Huck went to tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles and came out on top, with an 8-7 victory to up their record to 6-2.

Rockets Top Long Island, 4-3
ORLANDO, FL - The Toledo women's tennis team won its first spring break match on Sunday afternoon, defeating LIU-Brooklyn 4-3.
"The first outdoor match is always a test adjusting to the conditions, so it's a big ask to play our best tennis," graduate assistant coach James Thorp said. "We are learning to deal with moments like these so we can get the job done and learn in order to get better. Our girls are competing in these situations and it showed by saving two match points on court two in doubles. We need to continue to improve our energy and intensity throughout the entire match, particularly when we are not playing our best if we are going to compete down the stretch."
The Rockets claimed the doubles point for the 10th time this season in 11 matches.
In No. 2 doubles, senior Lexy Pitt and junior Emily Mazzola battled back in a hard-fought 8-7 victory, while freshman Sidnay Huck and junior Mackenzie Bowman recorded an 8-3 win at the No. 3 doubles spot to give Toledo the first point of the match.
