DeKALB, Ill. — The NIU Huskies scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to earn a 27-19 victory over Western Michigan on Wednesday night at Huskie Stadium. Sophomore Jordan Huff rushed for 159 yards on just eight carries as the Huskies overturned a five-point third quarter deficit to earn their sixth consecutive victory.
The Huskie defense also came up with a pair of fourth quarter stops, including a goal-line stand, to give NIU the win as linebacker Boomer Mays, who finished with a career-high 15 tackles, lived up to his name on first down with a crushing hit that stopped running back Jamauri Bogan in his tracks.
NIU (8-3, 6-1 MAC) can claim its sixth consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division crown with a victory next Tuesday night at Huskie Stadium over Ohio. Western Michigan fell to 6-5, 5-2 with the loss.
NIU led 14-10 at the half before nine third quarter points pushed the Broncos in front. Andrew Haldeman opened the second half scoring with a 31-yard field goal with 4:33 on the clock to pull Western Michigan within one, 14-13. The Broncos took the lead on their next drive as Zach Terrell connected with Corey Davis for 72 yards and a score. Western Michigan failed on its two-point attempt and the Broncos held a 19-14 lead with 1:57 remaining in the period.

KENT, Ohio -- It wasn't easy. It rarely is on the road.
Central Michigan quarterback Cooper Rush threw for 337 yards and the defense tightened the screws in the second half Wednesday as Central Michigan defeated Kent State, 27-14, in a Mid-American Conference game at windy Dix Stadium.
The win lifted CMU to 6-5 overall, 5-2 MAC, and made the Chippewas bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive season and the eighth time in the last 10 years.
"It always feels great to win and it's a lot of fun winning on the road," first-year CMU coach John Bonamego said.
It was a bounce-back win for the Chippewas after their 28-23 loss to Toledo last week. That loss ended CMU's hopes of a MAC championship.
