CANTON, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan Women’s Cross Country team chalked up their record book on Saturday by claiming the programs first MAC Championship title.
 
EMU junior, Alsu Bogdanova broke away in the final 800-meter stretch to claim the 2015 women’s individual title, posting a time of 20:39.26. Northern Illinois’ Kelsey Hildreth crossed the finish line three seconds later (20:42.79) to take second place and Western Michigan’s Maria McDaniel followed in third with a time of 20:45.37.
 
The Eagles had two other top-ten finishers in sophomore Jordann McDermitt (fourth, 20:53.62) and senior Sofie Gallein (sixth, 21:09.80) helping the team secure first place with 55 points. Bowling Green claimed second place with 72 points. Finishing one point higher and taking third was Central Michigan with 73 points. Western Michigan (118 points) and Buffalo (134 points) complete the top five, respectively. Rounding out the women’s final standings are Miami (sixth, 143 points), Northern Illinois (seventh, 147 points), Ohio (eighth, 177 points), Toledo (ninth, 220 points), Kent State (tenth, 271 points), Akron (eleventh, 316 points), and Ball State (twelfth, 363 points).
 
Following the race, league head coaches selected Eastern Michigan’s Sue Parks as MAC Coach of the Year. This is the second time Coach Parks has received this honor. Her first was in 2003, when she coached at Ball State.
 
Teams will have about two weeks to prepare for NCAA Regionals, which take place on November 13th.
