MAC ANNOUNCES 2014 FOOTBALL ACADEMIC ALL-MAC TEAM
136 Student-Athletes honored with excellence in academics and athletics
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2014 Football Academic All-MAC team as a total of 136 student-athletes were named to the 2014 Academic All-MAC team.
Central Michigan (Joe Bacci, Jarret Chapman, Mark Chapman, Ron Coluzzi, Josh Cox, Jabari Dean, Kavon Frasier, Chris Kantzavelos, Mike Kinville, Jesse Kroll, Joe Ostman, Jeff Perry, Anthony Rice and Cooper Rush) and Northern Illinois (Jackson Abresch, Ryan Brown, Cameron Clinton-Earl, Ricky Connors, Luke Eakes, Michael Gegner, Drew Hare, Bobby Jones IV, William Lee, Anthony Maddie, Matt McIntosh, Jason Meehan, Rob Sterling and Shane Wimann) topped the 2014 Academic All-MAC squad with 14 selections.
Bowling Green (Zac Bartman, Joe Davidson, Logan Dietz, Ryan Hunter, Nate Locke, Gabe Martin, Monti Phillips, Chrisitian Piazza, Chris Pohlman, Clay Rolf, Paul Senn, Ben Steward and Tyler Tate), Eastern Michigan (Youssef Barakat, Owen Dubiel, Cole Gardner, Thomas Glick, Lincoln Hansen, Kevin Johnson, Travis Linser, Dylan Mulder, Chris O’Risky, DaQuan Pace, Brendan Renius, Lavonte Robinson and Gary White Jr.), Ohio (Mitch Bonnstetter, Aaron Bradley, Dorian Brown, Chase Cochran, Cody Grilliot, Davon Henry, Josh Kristoff, Kurt Laseak, Troy Mangen, Quentin Poling, Kendrick Smith, Mike Terpin and Josiah Yazdani) and Toledo (Jeremiah Detmer, Mike Ebert, Nate Jeppesen, Greg Mancz, Jordan Martin, Jeff Myers, Chase Nelson, Storm Norton, Zac Rosenbauer, Brad Spelman, John Stepec, Logan Woodside and Alex Zmolik) each had 13 selections.
There were a total of seven student-athletes named as three-time selections: Robert Stein (Akron), Jacob Richard (Ball State), Tyler Tate (Bowling Green), Anthony Meray (Kent State), Rob Sterling (Northern Illinois), Jeremiah Detmer (Toledo) and Greg Mancz (Toledo).
There were 13 student-athletes named as two-time selections: Kyle Pohl (Akron), Chris Pohlman (Bowling Green), Tyler Grassman (Buffalo), Cooper Rush (Central Michigan), Dylan Mulder (Eastern Michigan), Matt Dellinger (Kent State), Jordan Italiano (Kent State), Nate Vance (Kent State), Kent Kern (Miami), Ricky Connors (Northern Illinois), Josh Kristoff (Ohio), Kurt Laseak (Ohio) and Matt Sparks (UMass).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
