2014 MAC Indoor Track & Field Champions Crowned
Results
Kent, Ohio - The University of Akron men's track and field team claimed their third Mid-American Conference title in four years and the Kent State University women’s track and field team claimed their fourth MAC title in five years Saturday at Kent State Field House.
On the final day of competition, the Golden Flashes saw three individuals named champions – Ann Marie Duffus was crowned champion in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.40. Dior Delophont was named champion in the high jump with a mark of 1.78m (5' 10"). Danniel Thomas rounded out Kent State's individual champions as she was named champion in the shot put with a distance of 16.51m (54' 2").
Kent State’s head coach Bill Lawson was named the 2014 MAC Women's Indoor Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year. Lawson has guided the Golden Flashes to four of the last five indoor titles.
Akron senior Jake Hiltner (800 M Run, 1:48.85), freshman Clayton Murphy (1 Mile Run, 4:08.69), junior Kyle Cochrun (3000 M Run, 8:17.37; 5000 M Run, 14:24.11), sophomore Shawn Barber (Pole Vault, 5.55m), and senior Daryl Baptiste (Long Jump, 7.35m) all contributed with a first place finishes in their respective events
After sailing to victories in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter races, UA junior Kyle Cochrun was named the MAC Men's Indoor Most Valuable Performer as the meet's highest point earner (20 points).
Akron's head coach Dennis Mitchell was named the 2014 MAC Men's Indoor Coach of the Year. It is the 18th time the 19-year Zips coach has earned the league's highest honor overall and the eighth time he has been given the distinction for his men's team.
The 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships will be hosted by the University of New Mexico from March 14-15.
