2014 MAC Field Hockey Postseason Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio – On Thursday, the Mid-American Conference announced its postseason award-winners for the 2014 field hockey season that included All-MAC First and Second Teams, along with Freshman and Coach of the Year. The list was highlighted by the Player of the Year.

Along with being named to the All-MAC first team, Kent State’s senior Hannah Faulkner was named the 2014 MAC Player of the Year. Faulkner led the conference in goals scored this season with 18 and points (44). Five of those goals were game winners.

Capturing Freshman of the Year honors was Faulkner’s teammate, Ines Delpech. The freshman from Tandil, Argentina had a terrific year for Kent State, starting all 18 games this season. Delpech had four goals and two assists on the season.

Central Michigan's head coach Cristy Freese was named this year's Coach of the Year by her colleagues. Under the guidance of the four-time MAC Coach of the Year, CMU won the MAC regular season title. Freese led her team to an overall record of 7-11 and conference record of 5-1 this season, grabbing the one seed in the MAC Championships.

The All-MAC first team was lead by Miami’s Ali Froede, Bea Dechant, and Kent State’s Faulkner who were all honored for the second year in a row. Joining them was Cayleigh Immelman and Maude Stalars of Central Michigan. Kent State’s Julia Hofmann, Jen Burris and Lauren Bernard of Longwood, Miami senior Valentina Neira, and Ohio's Adele Sammons and Lauryl Desch rounded out the first team.

MAC regular season champions Central Michigan placed three on the squad with Sadie Lynn Reynolds, Mary Moore, and Kaysie Gregory. Kent State’s sophomore Madison Thompson, junior Alayna Harris, and freshman Delpech also claimed second team honors. Missouri State grabbed two spots with Charlie Redhead and Andrea Soler Codina as well as Longwood with Hollie MacDonald and Edel Nyland. Ball State’s Bethany Han and Ohio’s Caelyn Hartley rounded out the second team.

The 2014 MAC Field Hockey Championships start Friday as No. 1 Central Michigan takes on No. 4 Ohio at 11:30 a.m. followed by No. 2 Kent State vs. No. 3 Miami at 2 p.m. The MAC Championship game will take place Saturday, November 8 at 2 p.m.
