Eastern Michigan Grabs 18th MAC Cross Country Title

Bowling Green, Ohio - Eastern Michigan claimed its 18th Men's Championship title in school history as MAC teams fought it out at the 2013 MAC Cross Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio.
"Real pleased with the teams effort today," Eastern Michigan's John Goodridge. "We are real proud of the tradition that exists at Eastern Michigan University and it's a real honor to represent the program and the opportunity to try to add to that tradition. This is why a lot of athlete come to Eastern, they want to be part of the college conference championship experience. We take a great deal of pride in it and we have no trouble getting these boys motivated to compete at a MAC Championship."
Buffalo's Zach Ahart claimed the men's individual title with a time of 24:47.60. Ahart became the first MAC cross country champion in Buffalo history. Miami's Dave Wing finished in second with a time a of 24:54.61, while Eastern Michigan's Grzegor Kalinowski crossed the finish line in third with a time of 25:04.43.
"It's Huge [being the 2013 men's individual champion]," Buffalo's Zachary Ahart said. "A year ago I got ninth in the conference and I didn't know I would get this far but it feels good. It has always been a goal of mine, so to finally achieve it feels good. It would have been nice to do better as a team because that is what we came here to do, but to get it individually feels good."
Eastern Michigan scored a total of 42 points, while Akron came in second with 67 points. Central Michigan finished in third place (104 points), while Ohio followed in fourth place (121 points). Buffalo (fifth, 122 points), Miami (sixth, 136 points), Kent State (seventh, 142 points), Toledo (Eighth, 204 points) and Bowling Green (ninth, 228 points) rounded out the field.
Eastern Michigan's John Goodridge was named the MAC Men's Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season and the ninth time in his career. The honor was selected by the leagues head coaches following the race.
2013 NCAA Regional Championships will take place on Nov.15 in Madison, Wis.
