2012 Women's Tennis All-MAC Teams & Postseason Awards

MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S TENNIS AWARDS
For Immediate Release—Thursday, April 26, 2012

DeKalb, Ill. – The Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced the 2012 Women’s Tennis Awards today at the start of the 2012 MAC Women’s Tennis Championships on the campus of Northern Illinois University. 

Regular season champion Miami University topped the day as RedHawks coach Anca Dumitrescu was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year and Stephanie Danesis was named Player of the Year.  Dumitrescu lead the Redhawks to the conference regular season title with an 8-0 conference record, including a 13-9 mark overall.  For Miami, it was the fourth consecutive MAC regular season title. In addition, Danesis was named first-team All-MAC and Christiana Raymond was named a second-team All-MAC selection for the RedHawks.

Akron, who finished second in the MAC with a 7-1 conference record, including a 21-3 mark overall, placed two first-team selections and one second-team selection.  The Zips were represented with Zara Harutyunyan and Olga Shkundina named to the first-team All-MAC team, while Prang Pantusart was named second-team All-MAC.  Akron’s Shkundina was also named Freshman of the Year.

Bowling Green was represented with three awards as sophomore Nikki Chiricosta earned first-team All-MAC honors and Emily Reuland was named second-team All-MAC.  The Falcons Maddy Eccleston won the Leann Grimes Davidge Sportsmanship Award. The award is presented to the player who has displayed outstanding sportsmanship in MAC competition.   

Eastern Michigan had two players named second-team All-MAC as Nino Mebuke and Miriam Westerink received the honors. 

Joining Miami’s Stephanie Danesis, Akron’s Zara Harutyunyan and Olga Shkundina and Bowling Green’s Nikki Chiricosta with first-team All-MAC honors were Tanvi Shah of Buffalo and Courtney Wild of Ball State.

Second-Team All-MAC honors went to Miami’s Christiana Raymond, Akron’s Prang Pantusart, Bowling Green’s Emily Reuland, Eastern Michigan’s Nino Mebuke and Miriam Westerink and Toledo’s Kelsey Anonsen.
