Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2010 Football Academic All-MAC team Thursday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.  A total of 29 student-athletes were named to the 2010 team.

Northern Illinois (Chandler Harnish, Nabal Jefferson, Mike Krause, Joe Pawlak and Jason Schepler) and Western Michigan (Ben Armer, Alex Carder, John Potter, Phil Swanson and Mitch Zajac) topped the 2010 Academic All-MAC squad with five selections each.  Central Michigan (Matt Berning, Sean Murnane, Mike Petrucci and Cody Wilson) and Toledo (T.J. Ball State (Scott Kovanda, Ian McGarvey and Briggs Orsbon) and Kent State (Jacquise Terry, Spencer Keith and Dorian Wood) each placed three selections.  Eastern Michigan placed two on the team (Alex Gillett and Ben Thayer).  MAC Champion Miami (Pat Hinkel), Ohio (Jordan Thompson) and Temple (Elisha Joseph) rounded out the selections.

Western Michigan's Phil Swanson was named to the squad for the fourth consecutive season.  Three-time selections include Matt Berning (Central Michigan), Chandler Harnish (Northern Illinois) and Ian McGarvey (Ball State).  Two-time selections include Ben Armer (Western Michigan), Mike Krause (Northern Illinois), Sean Murnane (Central Michigan), Briggs Orsbon (Ball State), John Potter (Western Michigan), Jacquise Terry (Kent State) and Ben Thayer (Eastern Michigan).

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.  First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
