All Mid-American Conference Team Announced
Cleveland, Ohio -- Toledos Greg Stempin became the 21st player in Mid-American Conference history to be named first-team all-MAC first-team three years in a row as the select honorees were announced today.
Stempin is joined on the first-team by David Webber of league champion Central Michigan, Trevor Huffman of East Division titlest Kent State, Marshalls J.R. VanHoose and Ohios Brandon Hunter. Webber and VanHoose were honorable mention all-MAC last year, Hunter was a member of the leagues all-freshman team while Huffman was a second-team all-MAC player last year.
Stempin, a 6-8 senior from Macomb, Mich., ranked among the league leaders in scoring (fourth at 17.7 ppg), rebounding (sixth, 8.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (seventh, 46.2%). He led the Rockets to 21 wins, the first time since 1981 that a Rocket squad has posted 20 wins. Stempin played in all 30 UT games and started in 29 of those. He averaged 2.0 assists per game and totaled 28 steals and 16 blocked shots on the season while being named West Division player of the week five times.
Webber leads the MAC in scoring with 18.8 points per game while leading the Chippewas to the league championship just one year after the team finished in last place. Webber won the leagues West Division player of the week award three times. Webber missed just one game all year, when battling a case of pneumonia, and averaged 36 minutes in the 26 games he appeared. Webbers all-around play included 5.2 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game (65 total) and 40 steals.
VanHoose leads the MAC in field goal shooting at 58.2% (153-of-263) and rebounding at 10.9 per game, as well as double-doubles with 19. VanHoose ranks seventh in the league in scoring at 16.5 points per game and led the Thundering Herd to a school record 12 MAC wins. The Herds No. 3 tournament seed is its highest since returning to the league three years ago.
Huffman leads the Golden Flashes in scoring and ranks ninth in the MAC with 16.3 points per game. In leading his team to its first ever East Division title, Huffman averaged 4.62 assists each game (134 total in 29 games) and 2.7 rebounds a contest. He shot 84.5% (153-of-181) from the foul line, had the leagues sixth best assist-turnover ratio at 1.9, and was credited with 35 steals. Huffman averaged 35 minutes a game in 29 appearances.
Hunter ranks second in the MAC in scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg) and third in field goal percentage (51.5%). His 13 double-doubles are also the second highest total in the league. Hunter played 33 minutes a game in 28 appearances and totaled 74 assists, 22 steals and 14 blocked shots on the season for the Bobcats this season.
Reflecting the class makeup of the first-team honorees, the second-team featured one senior, three juniors and a sophomore. Kent States Kyrem Massey is the lone senior and Ball States Theron Smith, last years MAC Freshman of the Year, the only sophomore on the second team. Juniors are Keith McLeod of Bowling Green, Alex Shorts of Miami and Tamar Slay of Marshall. Slay was a first-team all-MAC selection last year.

Matela was joined by Nate Schindewolf, Akron; Chad Pleiness, Central Michigan; Andrew Mitchell, Kent State; Demetric Shaw, Kent State; Travis Young, Marshall; Jason Grunkemeyer, Miami; Leon Rodgers, Northern Illinois; Patrick Flomo, Ohio; and Jon Powell, Western Michigan.
