Don Nehlen, Bowling Green (Football)
Don Nehlen helped Bowling Green compile a 21-2-4 record as Falcons' quarterback, including a MAC title in 1956 and second place finishes in 1955 and 1957. He was a two-time, All-MAC second-team selection. Nehlen returned to Bowling Green as the defensive coordinator in 1965 and became the head coach in 1968 and posted a 53-35-4 record during his nine-year tenure.
Nehlen was named the 1993 National Coach of the Year in leading the West Virginia Mountaineers to their second undefeated regular-season in six years (11-0 in 1988 and 1993). He retired from coaching in 2001 with an overall record of 202-128-8, making him the 17th winningest coach in college football history.
Nehlen was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005. The following year Nehlen published a book titled “Don Nehlen’s Tales from the West Virginia Sideline,” a look into the 21-year career with West Virginia football.
