Ted Kjolhede, Central Michigan (Men's Basketball)
Ted Kjolhede has been an integral part of Chippewa athletics across five decades. He was inducted into first Mid-American Conference "Hall of Fame" for his efforts as an athlete, coach and athletic director. Kjolhede earned three letters in basketball and two each in football and tennis in the mid-1940s.
Kjolhede was a product of Grant High and was MVP of the 1948 basketball team that posted a 17-3 record. He followed his Central Michigan career with outstanding coaching stints at Grand Haven and Battle Creek Central. His 1954 team won the state title at Battle Creek.
Kjolhede returned to Central in 1956 and served as basketball coach for 15 seasons. He was named NAIA "Coach of the Year" in 1965-66 after leading Central Michigan to a 23-6 record. Three of his teams reached the 20-win barrier. Kjolhede was appointed athletic director in January of 1973 and served for 11 years.
