Mid-American Conference Announces Staff Promotions

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Mid-American Conference Commissioner Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher has announced the promotions of four members of the Conference office staff, effective July 1, 2025.
  • Kyle Klein – promoted to Associate Commissioner / Championships & Special Events
  • Ryan Sosic – promoted to Assistant Commissioner / Communications
  • Holly Grober – promoted to Assistant Commissioner / Institutional Services and Programming
  • Dustin Avolio – promoted to Assistant Commissioner / Football Operations
Klein has been named Associate Commissioner for Championships & Special Events. He has served in a variety of roles within the MAC since 2015, most recently as Assistant Commissioner for Championships & Marketing. Klein previously held positions as Director of Communications, Director of Basketball Operations & Championships, and Director of Championships & Special Events. A former baseball student-athlete at Eastern Michigan University, the Grand Rapids, Mich. native holds both a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from EMU.
 
Avolio has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Football Operations. He joined the MAC in 2022 after four seasons with the University of Pittsburgh football program, where he was promoted to Director of Football Operations in 2021. Avolio’s previous experience includes time with the Miami Hurricanes, USA Football, and internships with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Washington Wizards. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in Sport Management from Georgetown University. A native of Washington, Pa., Avolio brings a strong background in football operations and player support services.
 
Grober has been named Assistant Commissioner for Institutional Services and Programming. She joined the MAC in 2023 following her time at Walsh University, where she managed athletic department operations and served as Interim Athletic Director. She also previously worked at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference as the Operations & Media Coordinator. A former student-athlete, Grober played basketball at Walsh from 2014–18 and later earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Corporate Communications and an MBA in Marketing from her alma mater.
 
Sosic has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Communications. He joined the MAC in 2023 as Director of Communications after previous stops at Wake Forest University and the University of Florida, where he worked with several nationally ranked programs including baseball, football, and basketball. Sosic began his career in athletic communications at Baldwin Wallace University and also spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball Communications staff. The Olmsted Falls, Ohio native earned his undergraduate degree in Sport Management from Baldwin Wallace in 2019.

The Mid-American Conference office is based in Cleveland, Ohio as the Conference office serves 13 full-time members and offers championships in 23 sports.
 
Founded in 1946, the Mid-American Conference is an NCAA Division I, 13-member conference that sponsors 23 championships and is one of ten members of the Football Bowl Subdivison (FBS). With total enrollment of nearly 300,000 students, the league represents institutions of higher learning in six states –Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, and Ohio.
