AKRON, Ohio -- Five Akron players collected multiple hits to help lead the Zips over the Northern Illinois Huskies 6-4 at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Softball Championships at Firestone Stadium on Thursday.
Alexis Campbell, Katie Cantrell and Andrea Day all went 2-for-3 for the game, while Meagan Lee and Sophia Wygast posted 2-for-4 performances. Campbell led the offense with a pair of RBIs and a double, Also collecting a double was Brooke Sivek, while Lily Sullivan distributed an RBI triple. Lee, Wygast and Cantrell added an RBI each.
Macy Walters (16-11) got the win for Akron (30-24). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing five walks and striking out two.
The Zips were trailing 3-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board.
The game remained tied until the fifth inning, when the Zips got going again on offense. which brought the Zips lead to 6-3. Northern Illinois put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still held on for the 6-4 win.
