MAC Softball Tournament Begins Wednesday at Firestone Stadium

AKRON, Ohio -- The 2025 Mid-American Conference Softball Championship will take place May 7-10 at historic Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. Over the next four days, the MAC’s top six teams will face off to determine the 2025 MAC Tournament Champion and the conference’s automatic qualifier in the 2025 NCAA Softball Championship.

Opening round action begins today, ith No. 4 Ball State facing No. 5 Akron at Noon ET, followed by No. 3 Central Michigan taking on No. 6 Northern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. ET.. The opening day of the championship will end with the losers of game one and two at 5:30 p.m. ET. The 2025 MAC Championship Game is set for Saturday, May 10 at 1 p.m. ET, with the "if necessary" game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.

The Miami RedHawks enter the 2025 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament as the No. 1 seed, following their sixth consecutive regular-season title. With a 31-23 overall record and a 20-7 mark in MAC play, the RedHawks are set to begin tournament action on Thursday, May 8, at 12 p.m. ET, facing the winner of the Ball State vs. Akron game. Under first-year head coach Mandy Gardner-Colegate, Miami has continued its dominance in the conference. The team boasts several standout players, including Chloe Parks and Madilyn Reeves, who were named to the All-MAC First Team, and Mckenna Campbell and Shelby Kunkel, who earned Second Team honors. Coach Gardner-Colegate was also recognized as Co-Coach of the Year.

Ohio earned the No. 2 seed, following a strong regular season with a 35-17 overall record and an 18-8 mark in MAC play. The Bobcats earned a first-round bye and will begin tournament action on Thursday, May 8, at 2:30 p.m. ET against the winner of the Central Michigan vs. NIU game. Leading the team is redshirt junior pitcher Skipp Miller, who was named the MAC Pitcher of the Year. Head coach Jenna Hall also received recognition as the MAC Coach of the Year. The Bobcats aim to capitalize on their momentum and strong individual performances as they compete for the conference title.

The Chippewas earned the No. 3 seed after finishing 26-23 overall (15-9 MAC). This marks CMU’s fourth straight MAC Tournament appearance under head coach McCall Salmon. Led by a strong pitching staff and timely offense, the Chippewas look to capture their first tournament title since 2013 and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The 2025 Chippewas outscored their MAC opponents 159-91 in the conference season, charted 222 hits compared to their opponents 183, went 33-37 with stolen bases, and sophomore catcher limited their opponents to being just 9-13 on the basepaths.

The Cardinals come into the tournament as the No. 4 seed after boasting a 31-16 overall record (16-9 MAC). The Cardinals will aim to build upon last year's impressive run to the championship game. As a team, Ball State leads the MAC in scoring, averaging 6.79 runs per game, and ranks 22nd nationally in stolen bases per game (1.81), showcasing their aggressive and dynamic style of play .

The Akron Zips return to the MAC Softball Tournament for the first time since 2017, entering as the No. 5 seed. The Zips concluded the regular season with a 28-23 overall record and a 15-9 mark in MAC play, highlighted by a sweep of rival Kent State and winning eight of their final 12 games. The Zips aim to capitalize on their momentum and strong individual performances as they compete for the conference title. 

NIUl returns to the Tournament for the first time since 2019, entering as the No. 6 seed. The Huskies concluded the regular season with a 20-28 overall record and a 14-13 mark in MAC play. The team is led by standout performances from All-MAC First Team honorees Jenna Turner (.391 batting average, 66 hits) and Madison Mathews (.371 average, 13 doubles, 7 home runs, 37 RBIs), as well as Danielle Stewart, who contributes both offensively and in the pitching circle.
