KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team defeated Ball State 4-1 in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at the West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bulls advance to the championship match for the first time since 2018.

In a hard-fought doubles action, the Cardinals took the point with wins at second and third doubles. Seniors Daniils Snaiders and Cheng Tang won 6-3 at first doubles. With the win, Snaiders hit 70 career wins in doubles action, a program record.

Snaiders continued his strong play into singles action where he gave the Bulls their first point of the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the first position before fellow senior Clement Mainguy then picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at second singles to put UB up 2-1. Junior Theodoros Mitsakos then followed with a 7-6, 6-1 win at first singles before Tang clinched the match for UB with a three-set thriller 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 at second singles.

"It was an incredible step up by our top four guys," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We talked about how if we want to win this championship, we would need to do so without winning the doubles point. We haven't lost a doubles match in quite some time, so the way the guys stepped up, handled the arena, all the people, the crowd was here for Ball State, Bill's last match, so many things that could have gotten into our heads and the top four guys stepped up and did an amazing job."

The Bulls will face the winner of #2 UIC and #3 Western Michigan in the championship on Sunday at 1pm.
