RedHawks, Huskies, Rockets, and Bulls Clinch MAC Tournament Spots

Miami 5, Western Michigan 2
OXFORD, Ohio –
 The Miami University tennis team celebrated a 5-2 win over Western Michigan University on the RedHawks Senior Day. The match started strong with Miami winning the doubles point. In singles, Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek and Sara Zalukar took home quick wins before Sarah Dev won the fourth point to clinch the match.
 
Up Next: The RedHawks will be back in action to take on NIU for the regular season match of the 2025 season. The match will take place in Oxford, Ohio, on Friday, April 18 at 12 p.m.

Northern Illinois 4, Buffalo 3
DeKALB, Ill. –
The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team clinched the Mid-American Conference West Division title and its first trip to the MAC Championship Tournament since 2017 Sunday with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Buffalo Sunday at the Nelson Tennis Center.
 
The victory – NIU's 21st of the season – set a new school record after the Huskies tied the previous mark, originally set by the 1984-85 women's tennis team, a week ago. NIU is 7-2 in the MAC with one match remaining in the regular season. The Huskies will play at Miami (Ohio) next Friday with a chance to claim the regular season MAC Championship.
  
The day also saw junior Nataly Ninova break the school record for singles wins in a season, as she claimed her 29th victory this year (combined fall and spring results) with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Ninova broke the record originally set by Huskie great Nelle Youel, who won 28 singles matches in 2014-15.
  
NIU opened Sunday's match by winning the doubles point with 6-4 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 by the teams of Lucia Yecora and Isabella Righi and Reagan Welch and Jenna Horne, respectively.
 
In singles, Huskies Irmak Budak, Yecora and Ninova each won their opening sets at No. 2, 3 and 4 but it was Buffalo that put the next point on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to tie the match 1-1.
 
Ninova split sets at No. 4 singles before rebounding for a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win. Budak gave NIU a 3-1 lead after prevailing in a tiebreaker in the first set, 7-2, for a 7-6, 7-5 victory. At No. 3 singles, Yecora and Buffalo's Jagmeet Kaur played the longest match of the day before Yecora came through with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win to improve her record to 17-2 on the season.
 
Buffalo took the matches at No. 5 and 6 singles, both in third set 10-point tiebreakers after Yecora's clinching point.

Eastern Michigan 5, Bowling Green 2
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) 
-- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team secured a 5-2 home win over visiting Bowling Green State University Sunday, April 13, inside the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti where the Eagles' seniors played a pivotal role in the team claiming victory on Senior Day. The Eagles (11-11, 4-5 Mid-American Conference) saw three seniors combine to win the doubles point and added two wins in singles action to lift the team over the Falcons (9-13, 0-9 MAC).
  
Prior to the match, the program took time to recognize the contributions of four its student-athletes on Senior Day. The team honored Sabina Brichackova and Prerna Vichare, who have been members of the program for four years; two-year member Lily Tria; and one-year player Marta Komar .
 
Eastern captured the doubles point for the fourth consecutive match as they swept the two completed matches for an early 1-0 lead. The senior duo of Brichackova and Vichare combined for their 44th career win as they captured a 6-2 decision at No. 1. The point was clinched at the No. 3 position with Komar and Daniella Shved winning, 6-3.
 
Jumping into singles play, the Eagles captured four consecutive wins, including three in straight sets, to secure the team victory. Viki Hazmukova got the ball rolling with her 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 before Kseniia Saenko followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5. Leading, 3-0, Komar completed her 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 to clinch the team victory on Senior Day. Vichare followed with her three-set comeback, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3. With the match decided, the final two went to a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set with the Falcons winning both, including the matches at No. 4 and No. 1.

» Ahead of the match, the program honored its four seniors on Senior Day, including Sabina BrichackovaMarta KomarLily Tria, and Prerna Vichare.
» Eastern improved to 11-11 overall and 4-5 in MAC play while Bowling Green fell to 9-13 overall and 0-9 in league action.
» The Eagles finished their regular season home schedule with a 10-2 record and improved to 21-2 in home matches under Ryan Kucera. The 10 home wins this season are the second-most in program history behind last year's 11-0 record.
» The win marked the 50th for Ryan Kucera as a collegiate head coach. He has 32 wins in NCAA Division I (23 at EMU and nine at Milwaukee) and 18 in NCAA Division II with Minnesota State Mankato.
» Marta Komar made the most of her Senior Day as she joined with Daniella Shved to clinch the doubles point before clinching the team win with EMU's fourth point of the day. The duo clinched the doubles point twice this season with both coming this weekend at home while Komar secured the team win for the second time this year as well.
» Prerna Vichare secured two wins on the day as her three-set win at No. 3 singles that followed her win at No. 1 doubles with Sabina Brichackova. With the wins, Vichare raised her career record to 60 doubles wins, which ranks 19th all-time in EMU history while bringing her combined wins total to 99.
» Sabina Brichackova's win at No. 1 doubles with Prerna Vichare, their 44th as a duo, brought her career total to 62 doubles wins and 119 combined wins. She is currently tied for 16th all-time on the doubles ledger while sitting two wins from tying for 17th on the combined wins list.

Eastern will conclude its regular season schedule Friday, April 18, with a 1 p.m. road contest at Ball State University. The match will be played at the Foster Adams Family Tennis Center and Bill Richards Tennis Courts in Muncie, Ind.

Toledo 4, Ball State 3
TOLEDO, Ohio –
In a battle that came down to the last singles match, the Toledo women's tennis team defeated Ball State, 4-3, at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts on Sunday. The win clinched a spot for the Rockets in the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the fourth-consecutive season.

Sophomore Jone Ibanez clinched match point for the Rockets after winning an almost three-hour, three-set match, 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-4 on the No. 4 singles court. Her victory marked the second consecutive match in which Ibanez clinched match point for Toledo.

Toledo (13-6, 6-3 MAC) started the match by winning the doubles point. Audrey Moutama and Gaby Rondon picked up a 6-1 victory on the No. 2 doubles courts while Neha Guru and Jacklynka Scholten combined for a 6-4 win on the No. 1 doubles court to get the Rockets in front, 1-0. UT went up 2-0 after Rondon tallied a 6-3, 6-4 victory on the No. 3 singles court over Ball State's Chloe Brown. Scholten followed with a straight set win on the No. 2 singles court to extend the Rockets' lead to 3-0. Scholten is 16-0 in singles play during her freshman campaign.

Ball State (10-9, 4-5 MAC) tied the match with victories on the No. 1, 5 and 6 courts before Ibanez secured the victory on court 4.

Defending MAC Champion Toledo will host the MAC Tournament at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts on Thursday-Friday, April 24-25. The Rockets are in second place in the MAC East Division, and currently hold the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
