Ball State 5, Bowling Green 2
MUNCIE, Ind. — In its second to final home match of the 2025 campaign, Ball State women's tennis defeated Bowling Green, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Ball State Tennis Facility. The Cardinals moved to 10-8 on the campaign and advanced their Mid-American Conference record to 4-4, while the Falcons dropped to 9-12 and 0-8 in league play.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start to open the MAC contest, securing the doubles point in convincing fashion. Ball State's No. 3 doubles pairing of Ella Hazelbaker and Elena Malykh cruised to a win in less than 20 minutes and downed the Falcons, 6-0. The red and white later picked up the deciding second court at the No. 1 spot, where Alana Bristow and Chloe Brown earned a 6-2 victory.
Ball State, leading 1-0 at the beginning of singles action, assembled a full six-player lineup for a home match for the first time since March 21—only five Cardinals played singles in the other contests because of injuries.
Brown was the first off the court in singles play, defeating her Bowling Green counterpart at the No. 3 position, 6-1, 6-1. By downing the Falcons, the graduate student secured her third-straight singles win after being sidelined for the four prior contests because of injury.
Tanjuatco was not far behind her teammate on the third court, as she pushed the Cardinals' lead to 3-0 by earning a 6-2, 6-1, victory at No. 4 singles.
Ball State was left with four opportunities to earn the fourth point to wrap up the winning effort. Hazelbaker on court six came through for the Cardinals, earning a hard-fought, straight-set victory (6-4, 6-4).
The remaining three courts went the distance and extended to three sets. Bowling Green secured three-set wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, but Bristow nabbed the win at the No. 5 spot to tack on Ball State's fifth point.
Just a pair of regular-season matches remain on the Cardinals' schedule as they make a push toward qualifying for postseason play. Ball State is set to travel to Toledo on Sunday, April 13, before hosting Eastern Michigan in the finale on Friday, April 18.
