BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team (13-5, 6-1 MAC) extended their winning streak to four matches with a 4-3 win over Ball State at Miller Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bulls remain atop the Mid-American Conference standings with a 6-1 record in league action.
The Bulls won the doubles point as
Daniils Snaiders and
Cheng Tang cruised to a 6-0 victory at first doubles and
Faiz Nasyam and
Emiliano Jorquera followed with a 6-2 win at the third position to put UB up 1-0.
Snaiders then gave the Bulls their first point of singles action with a 6-4, 6-4 win at fourth singles and Nasyam followed with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at the fifth position to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead. The visitors got on the board with a win at second singles, but
Emiliano Jorquera responded with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at six singles to clinch the match for UB.
Up next, Buffalo will hit the road for a pair of matches beginning on Thursday, April 3 at Northern Illinois.
UIC 7, Northern Illinois 0
CHICAGO – UIC men's tennis (13-4 overall, 4-2 MAC) delivered a commanding performance at home, sweeping Northern Illinois 7-0. The Flames set a powerful tone early in the match by clinching two crucial doubles victories, followed by decisive wins in all six singles contests.
In doubles action, at the #1 spot, Pedro Francaand Eldin Nokic edged out Northern Illinois' Ike Gaztambide Arrastia and Federico Scotuzzi with a 7-5 tiebreak. At the #2 doubles spot, Artem Alekseychuk and Milos Mikovic secured a nail-biting 7-6 win over Northern Illinois' Saul Berdullas and Iker Dellien Velasco. Although the #3 doubles match went in favor of Northern Illinois, these two wins provided a solid foundation for UIC.
The momentum continued in singles. At the #1 singles spot, Artem Alekseychuk turned the tide with a three-set win (6-5, 1-6, 6-0) over Ike Gaztambide Arrastia. Eldin Nokic dominated at #2 singles with a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-1) against Saul Berdullas. At #3 singles, Milos Mikovic prevailed (6-3, 7-6) over Federico Scotuzzi. The Flames maintained their strong performance with wins at #4, #5, and #6 singles by Mihailo Savic, Simon Knezevic, and Emil Dapcevic, respectively.
This dominant 7-0 victory not only boosts the team's confidence but also reinforces UIC's status as a rising force in the conference as they continue to refine their game.
Western Michigan 5, Toledo 2
TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team picked up a crucial road win in Mid-American Conference play and completed the regular season sweep of Toledo in a 5-2 in over the Rockets on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos started off by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The top pairing of Brogan Pierce and Drew Evans dispatched Poonthong Komolpisut, 6-2 to gain the early advantage. Jack Davison and Ashton Adesoro then clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Joshua Mackey and Lucas Britez.
With the 1-0 lead in singles, WMU quickly made it 2-0 thanks to senior Anton Arzhankin. Arzhankin dispatched Komolpisut 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Mattias Olivero got the Rockets on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Pierce at No. 3. Freshman Alex Antonopoulos made it 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mackey at No. 5 before sophomore Matej Kajzer clinched the match win with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) win over Britez at No. 6. Oscar Corwin scored WMU's fifth and final point with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Cole Cozens.
Western Michigan heads back on the road to take on Ball State on Friday at 1 p.m.
