HAMILTON, Ohio – The Miami University tennis team topped the University at Buffalo in a 6-1 victory. The RedHawks started strong with doubles pairs Denysiewicz-Slowek and Oliveira and Saravanan and Joyce winning to secure the point. Miami continued their success in singles, winning five of the six matches. This victory makes the RedHawks 3-0 in MAC competition and has built momentum the team will carry with them as they head into the next two road matches.
Up Next: The RedHawks will be back in action Friday, March 28, at 12 p.m. in Bowling Green to take on Bowling Green State University.
Eastern Michigan 4, Ball State 3
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team clawed its way back from several deficits to claim a 4-3 Mid-American Conference victory over visiting Ball State University Sunday, March 23, at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti. The Eagles (8-8, 1-2 MAC) picked up their first league win of the season with EMU coming back from a 3-2 deficit to defeat the Cardinals (8-5, 2-1 MAC).
The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead as they swept two doubles matches to claim the first point. In singles play, the Eagles quickly tied things up at 1-1 as Daniella Shved won in straight sets at No. 2, 6-3, 6-1. The two teams traded points in the next two matches as Ball State won at No. 6 before Marta Komar captured a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5 to knot things at 2-2.
BSU pushed EMU to the brink of defeat with its three-set win at No. 4, but the Eagles found a way to win as their final two victories came in three sets after dropping the first. Viki Hazmukova kept the hosts alive as she rebounded at No. 1 for a 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1 win before Prerna Vichare closed out the win as she took a 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 for her first clinching point of the season.
Match Notes
» Eastern Michigan improved to 34-15 all-time against Ball State with the win. The Eagles also improved to 16-7 all-time when playing host to the Cardinals in Ypsilanti.
» The Eagles played their 208th match to end in a one-point score and their second consecutive. Eastern improved to 110-98 all-time in one-point matches and 43-45 when those matches came against MAC foes. Additionally, the Eagles improved to 34-35 in one-point contests when the match was played at home and 20-21 when it was a home date with a MAC foe.

The Eagles will play host to a pair of Mid-American Conference matches next weekend as both Western Michigan University and Miami University come to town. The Eagles and Broncos will meet at the Chippewa Club Friday, March 28, for a 1 p.m. tilt before the RedHawks come to town Sunday, March 30, for a 1 p.m. start. Admission for both matches is free for all to attend.
Northern Illinois 6, Western Michigan 1
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team swept the singles matches to defeat Western Michigan, 6-1, to earn the Huskies' first win over the Broncos in Kalamazoo in at least 20 years.
NIU came back after losing the doubles point with losses at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take all six singles matches, including five straight-set victories. The Huskies are now 15-4 overall, 2-1 versus Mid-American Conference competition.
Freshmen
Lucia Yecora started NIU's singles run with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Frida Weijerman at No. 3 singles.
Irmak Budak and
Nataly Ninova put two more points on the board with wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively and freshman
Theodora Kousiou clinched the NIU win by taking her match at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 7-5. Wins by
Isabella Righi at No. 5 and
Maria Dzemeshkevich, who came back after losing the first set at No. 1, completed the NIU sweep.
NIU had just three wins over the Broncos in 23 meetings since 2005 entering Sunday's match, with two of those wins n DeKalb in the last three years and the other in DeKalb in 2017.
The Huskies return to the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House on Friday, March 28 with a pair of matches, beginning at 1 pm versus Toledo, followed by a 6 pm match against Chicago State.
Toledo 7, Bowling Green 0
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team swept Bowling Green, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Twos Athletic Club for their second straight Mid-American Conference win. Freshman
Annika Munson clinched match point with her straight-set victory on the No. 5 singles court.
The Rockets (9-4, 2-1 MAC) took the point in doubles play after earning victories on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.
Jacklynka Scholten and
Neha Guru grabbed the 6-3 win on the No. 1 court, while
Annika Munson and
Jone Ibanez clinched the doubles point for Toledo with a 6-2 victory on court No. 3.
In singles play,
Gaby Rondon got the Rockets started by winning her match in straight sets on the No. 3 court to put Toledo up 2-0.
Jone Ibanez and Munson picked up wins on the No. 4 and No. 5 courts, respectively, to clinch the victory for the Rockets and take a 4-0 lead.
Freshman
Catherine Rhegness took down Bowling Green's Brynn Chaffee on the No. 6 singles court, 6-0, 6-3 to remain undefeated in singles play (6-0) and extended Toledo's lead, 5-0. Scholten earned her win on the No. 2 court in straight sets with a second set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to give Toledo the 6-0 advantage. She is now 11-0 in singles play during her freshman campaign.
Play concluded with Moutama battling for a three-set victory on the No. 1 singles court, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, to complete the sweep of the singles courts for the Rockets.
