Ball State and Miami Win In-State Rival Matchups

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak with their 6-1 defeat over in-state rival Butler Sunday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA. 

With the win, the Cardinals evened their overall record to 4-4 while the Bulldogs fall to 2-8 on the year. 

The Cardinals got off to a hot start in doubles taking wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Sarah Shahbaz alongside teammate Isabelle Tanjuatco flew past the Bulldogs No. 2 duo of Lauren Cook and Katie Beavin winning 6-1. Ella Hazelbaker paired up with Elena Malykh at the No. 3 spot for the deciding point beating Norah Balthazor and Emma Bean by 6-4 decision. 

In singles, the Cardinals registered victories on courts five, four, six and three, respectively. Hazelbaker's straight frame defeat (6-4, 6-1) against Butler's No. 6 player Lauren Cook would earn Ball State match point. 

The last court on was No. 2 singles which saw Jemima Williams-Phillips take a three-set thriller from Balthazor, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. 

The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action when it plays on the road at Austin Peay Thursday at 1 pm ET and then Middle Tennessee on Saturday with a 4 pm ET first serve.

DAYTON, Ohio – The Miami University tennis team dominated the University of Dayton in a 7-0 victory. The RedHawks started strong taking the doubles point, and continued their success into singles, winning all six matches. Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek had a strong comeback in her singles match at the No. 1 spot, where she dropped the first set but came back to win the second set and the tiebreaker to take the match.
 
Up Next: The RedHawks will travel to Charleston, S.C., to take on Charleston Southern University on Friday, March 7, at noon.
