Four MAC Draft Hopefuls to Participate at NFL Scouting Combine

INDIANAPOLIS – Four former Mid-American Conference football student-athletes will be participating at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine this week inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

Darius Alexander (Toledo) will join the rest of the defensive linemen and linebackers in on-field evaluations on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. ET while Harold Fannin, Jr. (Bowling Green), Maxen Hook (Toledo) and Bilhal Kone (Western Michigan) will get their chance to impress in front of NFL front offices and executives on Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. ET with the tight ends and defensive backs.

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine will be broadcast on NFL Network and will also be streamed on NFL+.

Alexander made a big impact at this year's Senior Bowl, impressing media observers and NFL Draft pundits with his performance throughout the week of practices and one-on-one drills leading up to the game. He was named the top defensive lineman at the Senior Bowl in a vote by the offensive linemen participating in the practices. He followed that up with a noteworthy performance in the Senior Bowl game on Feb. 2, picking up one tackle for loss, another tackle for no gain and several pressures on quarterbacks for the opposing team.

Fannin had a prolific 2024 season for the Falcons. His 117 receptions and 1,555 receiving yards not only lead the nation but are also all-time FBS season records for a tight end. Fannin led the nation's tight ends in 105+ different categories and all receivers in 20+ categories. Fannin was BGSU's first-ever consensus All-American, earning first-team honors in four of the five consensus All-America teams. He was also just the first FBS tight end to earn a league MVP honor when the MAC named Fannin the Vern Smith Leadership Award recipient. Fannin was also named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year.

Fannin owns more than 20 BGSU school records and set eight FBS records in 2024, which include the following tight end categories: season receptions, season receiving yards, season receptions per game, season receiving yards per game, bowl receptions, bowl receiving yards, regular-season receiving yards, and regular-season receiving yards per game. Additionally, his 17 receptions in the 68 Ventures Bowl tied an FBS record for tight end receptions in any game.

Hook, a safety from New Palestine, Ind., earned All-MAC honors for the fourth time this past season, becoming only the third Rocket ever to achieve this feat. He earned first-team All-MAC accolades in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and third-team honors in 2021. He led the Rockets in tackles with 107 in 2024. For his career, Hook had 356 tackles, seven interceptions and 15 pass breakups. He also participated in Senior Bowl workouts but was not able to play in the game due to an injury.

Kone, a redshirt senior cornerback from Apple Valley, Min., appeared in 13 games this past season, tallying 70 tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception. Additionally, Kone was credited with nine pass breakups and two fumble recoveries in 2024. Over his two seasons in Kalamazoo, Kone played in 25 games and notched 112 tackles.

#MACtion in the NFL Draft
Last April, Quinyon Mitchell (Philadelphia Eagles) and Marshawn Kneeland (Dallas Cowboys) were selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Mitchell became the 18th player from the Mid-American Conference to be chosen in the first round and the highest MAC pick since 2017 when Western Michigan's Corey Davis was taken as the fifth pick overall by Tennessee. He tied the record for the highest pick ever for a MAC cornerback, matching Eastern Michigan's Ron Johnson (No. 22 selection by Pittsburgh in 1978).

Three years prior to Davis’ selection, Buffalo Bulls linebacker Khalil Mack was the fifth overall selection by the Oakland Raiders in the 2014 NFL Draft.  Mack's selection was the highest ever for the Buffalo program and the second-highest ever selection for a MAC student-athlete.

In 2013, Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher became the first MAC football player to be selected as the overall No. 1 selection in the NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Fisher as No.1 choice in the 2013 NFL Draft. The previous highest player drafted from the MAC was Marshall quarterback Byron Leftwich, who was selected No. 7 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, in the 2003 NFL Draft.
