DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Sunday in the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House, defeating Marquette 5-2 to start the day and sweeping the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 7-0 to close out the day.
The Huskies improved to 5-4 on the season with the wins, including a 4-0 mark in its home facility.
NIU won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles versus Marquette.
Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and
Federico Scotuzzi scored a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot, and
Saul Berdullas and
Sam Klein clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win after the Golden Eagles had won at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Gaztambide Arrastia and Scotuzzi put the second and third points on the board with straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. Berdullas secured the Huskie win with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 win over Cyrus Ahmad from the No. 2 position.
Iker Dellien Velasco added the fifth and final point for NIU with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles.
In the second match, Berdullas and Klein earned their second doubles win of the day to help NIU take the doubles point, leading the Huskies into a sweep of the singles matches with Gaztambide Arrastia, Berdullas, Scotuzzi and Dellien Velasco all earning their second wins of the day. Chia Bu Suo Nan came back to win in three sets, and Pratyaksh closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot.
The Huskies play a trio of matches in Chicago next weekend. NIU plays DePaul and Belmont on Friday, February 21 and face Eastern Kentucky on Saturday with all three matches at XS Tennis Village.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior
Hanamichi Carvajal clinched the win for the Toledo men's tennis team as the Rockets snapped a three-match losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Northwestern Ohio at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
Northwestern Ohio (3-3) claimed the doubles victory to take an early 1-0 lead over the Rockets. The Racers posted wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts. The No. 3 doubles court went unfinished with
Eli Wiblin and
Matias Olivero leading by a 6-5 margin.
Toledo (3-4) responded by claiming five consecutive singles courts to clinch the match.
Charlie Snow defeated Nils Messin on the No. 6 court in straight sets. On the No. 2 court,
Poonthong Komolpisut put the Rockets ahead with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Joshua Mackey grabbed a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) win on the No. 5 court for a 3-1 lead.
Carvajal clinched the victory with a straight-set win on the No. 1 court.
Cole Cozens recorded a three-set victory on the No. 3 court to put the Rockets ahead 5-1, while
Lucas Britez fell in straight sets on the No. 4 court.
Toledo will remain home for two matches on Saturday, Feb. 22 against Cleveland State (2-5) at 1:00 p.m. and Eastern Illinois (2-9) at 7:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
UIC 4, Youngstown State 3
CHICAGO (Feb. 17, 2025) – UIC men's tennis secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday, capping off a competitive battle with a clutch performance in singles play.
The Flames started strong by securing the doubles point, setting the tone for the match. In singles action, UIC claimed three key victories to seal the win, showing composure and determination in pressure moments.
With another win under their belt, UIC continues to build momentum as they look ahead to their next challenge. The Flames will be back in action soon, ready to keep the energy high for the rest of the season.
